The issue of funding-induced bias in climate research has been addressed by these previous posts:

When I was a child, I had a vision of my then distant future when 99.5% of the world’s population died almost overnight. That distant future is close to present reality. It does not have to be a war that kills 7 billion plus people. The Carrington event was a solar superstorm named after the amateur astronomer Richard Carrington who saw two enormous patches of intensely bright white light erupt from surface of the sun. That solar flare released the energy of 10 billion atomic bombs. In 1859 the largest magnetic storm in 500 years merely destroyed telegraphic communications.

Saturday night, Julian Bond, one of my personal heroes, passed away. I didn't realize he was 75; I always assumed he was my age, maybe a year or two older. I first met him in 1966, and I'm going to tell you about that in a minute. In more recent years we've both been on the board of People for the American Way, where he has continued to inspire me. He's inspired a lot of people.
Words of a Syrian friend from Kafarya:
“About three months ago in Qalb Lozeh, a Druze village, al-Nusra massacred about 30 residents.
The village was first under control of the “FSA”, then ISIS, then ISIS told them them must convert to Islam, cut your mustaches… then, al-Nusra came and ordered the same thing, to convert to Islam, you are Druze, not Muslims…you must destroy your shrines…
In a recent piece on Foreign Policy, titled, “No One Talks About Liberating Mosul Anymore,” Michael Knights wrote about the necessity of training better Iraqi forces and unleashing U.S. airpower in Iraq to fight the so-called Islamic State (IS).
“It’s time to let the US military get creative with partners on the ground – and let pilots above open a can of whoop-ass on the Islamic State,” reads the epigraph of the piece.

Most polls show that Jewish Americans are the Americans most enthusiastic about the diplomatic deal reached at Vienna between Iran and the UN Security Council over its civilian nuclear enrichment program.
by Juan Cole
(Informed Comment) -So the umbrella group of lobbyists supposedly dedicated to representing Jewish Americans, the American Israel Political Affairs Committee, is lobbying for the deal, right?
Wrong.
Are you in enough pain to swallow this pill? Stanford scientists have developed a new way of creating painkiller components like hydrocodone by injecting 23 different engineered genes from plants, bacteria, and rats into yeast.
The result is the beginning of the journey towards ‘GMO painkillers,’ and another entrance into the world of genetically modified pharmaceuticals. A world that far expands beyond the tinkering of Monsanto’s GMOs. The ‘advancement’ places into perspective the depths to which the booming industry of DNA alteration will take us.
Al-Araby Al-Jadid | August 13, 2015 There is a clear contradiction between Israel’s demolition of two houses built by Jewish settlers in Beit El settlement following a judgement by the Supreme Court that they were built on private property belonging to a Palestinian, and the approval of Benjamin Netanyahu’s government for the construction of 300 […]
Above all else, what has been proved by the bitter experience made by Greek workers with Syriza is that it is impossible to defend anything—jobs, wages, essential social services—without breaking the stranglehold of the financial oligarchy over economic and political life. It demands the independent political mobilisation of the working class against the major corporations and banks and their government.
Sunday, everyone's favourite day for rest and relaxation... And just to piss off some of my favourite fans in the JIDF/Hasbara community (or what I call Clown College rejects), here comes my weekly rant....First, yes it has been a very hot week across the northern hemisphere, and there are many out there including those in the fraud Global Warming community that are pointing to this week and saying "See... The planet is definitely warming"....
By Colin Todhunter | CounterPunch | February 27, 2015 On Twitter recently, someone asked the question “Why do people doubt science?” Accompanying the tweet was a link to an article in National Geographic that implied people who are suspicious of vaccines, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), climate change, fluoridated water and various other phenomena are confused, adhere […]
Is Darwinism at work inside the Republican Party? Beltway journalists have a new game-- speculating on who the first presidential contender to head for the exit will be. Yesterday, Politico, always a fount of Beltway conventional wisdom, was predicting it would be Rick Perry. They've finally stopped laughing about when Trump would bow out.
United Front Against Austerity | Tax Wall Street Party Morning Briefing | Sunday, August 16, 2015 This weekend marks the forty-fourth anniversary of the deliberate destruction of the highly successful Bretton Woods System by Richard Nixon at Camp David, Maryland on August 15, 1971 – in many ways the worst thing Tricky Dick ever did. By Sheldon Richman | Free Association | August 14, 2015 Thanks to the Iran nuclear deal, something remarkable is happening in American politics: the irreconcilable conflict of interest between most Americans on one side and Israel and its American supporters on the other is on full display and impossible to ignore. In the past the […]

By Daniele Pozzati – Sputnik – 15.08.2015 News website Salon has taken on “the ongoing nonsense concerning foreign-funded NGOs operating in Russia” in a long article published online last week. PrivacySOS | August 15, 2015 If you find yourself reading a story about US war or spying that contains a variation on the phrase “according to US officials” in the top paragraph, you are likely biting into a whopper of state propaganda and lies. Today’s NYT reporting on Snowden documents provides just the latest example. […]
Dr. Ramon Seidler, a retired senior scientist from the US Environmental Protection Agency, has become a leading spokesperson against genetically modified foods and the increasing use of pesticides with GM crops. Dr. Seidler has published numerous papers on the subject of GMOs, arguing against them, rather than for them, as many other industry puppets do.
If you’re feeling down, you might be tempted to reach for some sort of comfort food like bread or cupcakes, or maybe a big bowl of spaghetti. But if you’re a woman, you should know that doing so puts you at greater risk of developing full-blown depression after menopause – at least that is what one study is reporting.
At this point, we have all been exposed to Monsanto’s toxic glyphosate – the chemical in Monsanto’s best-selling herbicide, Round Up. Exposure is happening either by eating GMO foods, or living close to a farm that routinely sprays their crops with the ‘probably-carcinogenic’ herbicide, as declared by the WHO’s IARC. In response to this, McDivitt Law Firm is inviting the public to attend a series of town meetings to hold agrichemical companies liable for the health damage they have caused with Round Up chemicals. Are they meeting in your town?
Have you heard of the new alcohol that comes in a powder? It’s called ‘Palcohol,’ and not all states are so accepting of this new product. In fact, powdered alcohol is becoming illegal already in some states, including the state of New York. [1]
On August 14, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed legislation banning “palcohol,” freeze-dried alcohol that comes in packaged form. The Governor called the products “a public health disaster waiting to happen.”

A few things that caught my eye this past week.
"Come 'n' get it, baby"? Don't believe your judgmental eyes. NYT reporter Peter Baker assures us that Warren G. Harding, who apparently had the ladies throwing themselves at him, "was seen by women of the time as attractive." Okay, noted. (Maybe when he was younger?)by KenOur Noah just seems to find these things. Or maybe they find him, I don't know. Either way, among his pass-alongs this week was this:
In the history of modern "warfare" we have seen again and again how some nations have defied international law and have used weapons that are supposed to be outlawed by international standards and "rules of war" against innocent civilian populations... Such was the case of course when the psychotic state of Israel used many American built and paid for weapons against civilians living in the open air concentration camp called the Gaza Strip last summer.
