Al-Manar | August 10, 2016 An Israeli think-tank said that the West should seek the further weakening of the Takfiri ISIL group, but not its destruction. Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies considered as a “strategic mistake” the destruction of ISIL, stressing that a weak but functioning ISIL can have many advantages. “A weak but functioning […]
According to a recent study by the Pentagon-linked RAND Corporation, a US military conflict with China is unlikely by calculated move but less unlikely by miscalculation or accident. Does this not mean US interventionism in the South China Sea conflict could lead to such a nightmare scenario? Just this year the US has pushed both Vietnam and the Philippines to a more confrontational position vis-a-vis China. What if this brinkmanship and ally-shopping leads to a Chinese miscalculation? Looking at the scenarios in today’s Ron Paul Liberty Report:
I want to start this post off by taking a closer look at what Donald Trump actually said in his now infamous “2nd Amendment speech” yesterday. Here’s the part that generated all the controversy:
If she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is. I don’t know. But — but I’ll tell you what. That will be a horrible day. If — if Hillary gets to put her judges — right now, we’re tied. You see what’s going on.
Exclusive: Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is taking a P.R. pounding for a sloppy Second Amendment reference interpreted as calling for Hillary Clinton’s assassination, but what was his intent, asks Robert Parry. By Robert Parry Donald Trump’s strange comment about “Second Amendment…Read more →

Temer, Rousseff’s replacement, is very unpopular in Brazil; polls show voters want elections – and not his presidency – if Rousseff is impeached [Xinhua]
Brazil’s Senate voted 59 to 21 to uphold charges that suspended President Dilma Rousseff mismanaged the federal budget and broke a number of fiscal policy rules during her reelection campaign two years ago.
Rousseff has persistently denied the charges and accused the Senate of orchestrating a coup to remove her from a democratically elected office after she won a second presidential term in 2014.

Every election cycle I've been writing about how certain unions-- usually the building trades-- contribute a great deal to Republican candidates running against Democrats. I won't have to this cycle; ThinkProgress already did a good job at it. Despite the fact that 'Right-to-work' laws "have been proven to not only reduce the number of people who are part of a union, but also the average wages and benefits for workers in those states...
Today my guest is researcher and host of “Surviving Scientology Radio” Jeffrey Augustine. Jeffrey and I have an in-depth conversation on the growing relationship between The Church of Scientology and the Nation of Islam. Jeffrey relates the history of how these two groups came together, and describes the role that Christian minister Alfreddie Johnson has played as a top Scientologist recruiter and spokesman, particularly through his Scientology front group, the World Literacy Crusade.
By Robert Parry | Consortium News | August 9, 2016 The irony of Hillary Clinton’s campaign impugning the patriotism of Donald Trump and others who object to a new Cold War with Russia is that President George H.W. Bush employed similar smear tactics against Bill Clinton in 1992 by suggesting that the Arkansas governor was a […]
Sputnik – August 10, 2016 Former CIA Deputy Director Michael Morell, who has recently endorsed Hillary Clinton, has caused a firestorm when he said that the United States should covertly kill Russians and Iranians in Syria, with Russian lawmakers denouncing the remarks as “monstrous” and experts saying that he merely confirmed what Washington has secretly […]

McDonald’s has been in the news a lot this month, thanks to big changes the fast-food company is making to several of its menu offerings.
The company began making these changes more than a year ago, when it replaced margarine with real butter in its Egg McMuffins, and added kale and spinach to the iceberg lettuce in its salads. (Those kale salads wound up being higher in calories than McDonald’s famous Big Macs, though.) [1]
By Martin Berger | New Eastern Outlook | August 10, 2016 The meeting that Russia’s President Vladimir Putin held with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Saint Petersburg has literally attracted the same amount of media attention as the Rio Olympics. (MEE) The US State Department has approved the potential sale of more than 130 Abrams battle tanks, 20 armoured recovery vehicles and other equipment, worth about $1.15bn, to Saudi Arabia, defence chiefs said on Tuesday.
The approval notice came on the same day a Saudi-led coaltion launched its first air raids in three months in Yemen, where it is fighting Houthi rebel forces in support of the exiled government of President Abd Rabbuh Hadi.

Back in 2000, when the evangelical, chicken hawk, smirking frat boy—another rich kid, spoiled brat—grabbed the presidency, the Democrats blamed (and never forgave) Ralph Nader and the Green Party. If Trump wins, a similar scapegoating will not work, not if we remember the unequivocal realities of the polls.

Although most people in the developed world have never heard of most neglected tropical diseases, these ailments actually affect more than 20 million people worldwide and lead to the death of over 50,000 people annually. Tropical diseases have previously had very little treatments and thus, no hope for some of the poorest communities in the world, but now we’ve come closer to finding some solutions.

Most of us are already aware that having a baby can come with a significant price tag. However, that price can vary quite a bit from state to state, with the average cost hovering around $10,000 for the birth of a baby and an extra $5000 for a C-section.
The media goes between making this a big deal to downplaying the significance. It's either two despots getting together to be despotic or it's much ado about nothing. It appears we'll have to use our own discernment. Looks to me as if some progress was made. The fact they had the meeting indicates progress.
How disgusting is double dipping, really? Researchers at Harvard were inspired by the character of George Costanza in a 1993 episode of Seinfeld in which he is caught “double-dipping” a chip at a wake. Double-dipping, for those unaware, is when one dips a chip, takes a bite, and then dips their chip again. The other characters, horrified by George’s behavior, said that his act was akin to putting his entire mouth on the dip.
But does science support George or the other characters in this debate?

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump say that they disagree on a number of points related to foreign policy.
