Nuclear dangers are growing in five different regions. The least noticed is South Asia. New Delhi has not been able to figure out how to deal with militant groups that enjoy safe havens in Pakistan. So far, India’s options have been to do nothing after attacks or execute war plans that invite mushroom clouds. A third option, which involves commando raids, may now be coming into view.

RT | January 30, 2017 Newly-released US documents show Trident nuclear missiles have a track record of failure. The revelations come weeks after it emerged a British test-fired missile malfunctioned in June 2016 and veered off course towards the US coast. Documents seen by the Sunday Times reportedly show the Trident system has long been […]
Where is the liberal left outrage?
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia refuses to take any Syrian refugees, even though the KSA is much closer to the war stricken area than Europe or the United States.
Moving refugees to Saudi Arabia would be far less dangerous than risking death in overcrowded boats on the Mediterranean towards the shores of Italy or Greece.

In a press release from the Office of the Press Secretary, it was revealed today that acting Attorney General, Sally Yates, was relieved of duty after instructing Department of Justice lawyers not to defend Trump’s executive order on travel bans. The Press Secretary release noted that Yates “betrayed the Department of Justice by refusing to enforce a legal order designed to protect the citizens of the United States.”

For all the uproar going on in the liberal left camp about Trump’s “muslim ban”, which has been thoroughly debunked as no ban at all, there is one nation which does have its citizens banned from entering 16 countries.
No protests, no outrage, over the fact that 16 Muslim countries forbid Israeli passport holders from entering their country.
As with all color revolutions, one man stands in the shadows coordinating the efforts to destabilize legitimate governments with paid for useful idiots, assembled in the streets in protest of policy grounded in logic and national interest.
Of course we are talking about George Soros. His interest is a globalist agenda, and any nation state that is strays away from the neo-liberal religion he leads is a target for takeover.
...The indifference of Americans to injustice has spread outside US borders. The Clinton, George W. Bush, and Obama regimes are responsible for millions of dead and displaced persons in 10 countries—Serbia, Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Yemen, Pakistan, Syria, Ukraine, and Palestine. None of those responsible have expressed any remorse and neither have the American people.

Iraq’s parliament formally called on the federal government to respond to a controversial visa ban — that prevents Iraqis from entering the United States — by likewise barring Americans from traveling to Iraq. Two new ministers were sworn in on Monday. Qassem al-Aaraji is the new interior minister, and Erfan al-Hayyali is the new minister […]
According to Gallup, Trump's disapproval numbers continue to tick upwards every day. Yesterday it was at the unprecedented-- for a new president-- high of 50%. Today it's at 51%. It took Bush 3 years to turn over half the country against him; it took Trump a week. In England, in just a few hours, nearly a million people signed a petition demanding the government cancel his state visit to their country. [UPDATE: After two days, the petition had nearly two million signatures. Brits hate Trump.] That's a lot more people than went to his failed inauguration.

The farther away the Great History recedes into the distance, the more the documents shedding light on true world events sprout up, as the grey areas give way to clearer analyses and a clarification of what actually happened, and the clearer become the real relations among several powers, which in those days were able in some way to hide their true greedy plans for the weaker countries in various regions of the world.
Earlier in Countercurrents, I reviewed Shashi Tharoor’s An Era of Darkness– very favorably. In that review, I mentioned other books, including Madhusree Mukherjee’s Churchill’s Secret War and Mike Davis’s magisterial Late Victorian Holocausts. All three books break with the mythology of Pax Britannica and describe its body-count. A wasteland indeed called peace. A Pox not a Pax. I wrote the[Read More...]
It creates a unique situation where the lack of faith in any political ideology creates a huge vacuum which can be easily exploited to foment trouble . A key issue then, is to engage the state youth that accounts for over 60% of the state’s population, with the younger generation taking centre stage in this new political discourse that challenges status quo and proffers a more realistic alternative to fill this void.
A decade or two ago, many in the development community acted with the best of intentions, but without the best of evidence. If households lack clean water—help build wells ; if people suffer ill health—set up health services; if the poor lack capital to start businesses, give them credit. But the actual reality is not simple, it is very[Read More...]

You know you are in the presence of an emotional affect when there is not even the pretense of rationality to someone’s crazed outburst, not so much as a veneer or patina of sensibility.
But then John McCain has always been like that, hotheaded and short-fused.
Still, in his response to Trump’s executive order on refugees, McCain’s deep disturbance is plain for all to see. The Senator’s hometown newspaper headlined its account this way: “McCain calls ban good for ISIS propaganda.”
President Trump’s recent Executive Order banning entry to citizens of seven mostly-Muslim countries for 90 days has sparked protest and outrage. Lost in the din created by the protests is the fact that these seven countries have something in common: they have been targeted by the US for bombs or regime change. Where Iraq and Syria are now considered terrorist threats, for example, before US regime change and invasion there was no terrorist problem. Iran has never attacked or threatened the United States, but it is on the list of banned countries.
Adam Garrie asked Syrian journalist Afraa Dagher to reflect on the recent Astana Peace Conference and how this impacts on Syria’s long-term future.
AG: The new draft constitution seems to have disappointed people on all sides. It’s not surprising that terrorist’s whose currency is blood have rejected it, but there are many provisions which seem to weaken the Syrian Arab Republic’s standing as a secular, multi-national, multi-religious, tolerant republic for all citizens. What is your reaction to such provisions?
It is received wisdom among many, that because Iran has not declared war on any foreign power for centuries, that this somehow automatically makes contemporary Iran something of a sainted player in the Middle East. But this is not entirely the case.
For decades, under both the Imperial reign of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi as well as under the Islamic Republic, Iran was deeply desirous of having a more active presence in the Arab world.

Refugees don’t appear out of thin air.
Many people claimed that Donald Trump’s proposals for so-called ‘safe zones’ in Syria for internally displaced people, would drive an insurmountable wedge between the US and Russia on Syria.
The idea of setting up special areas, effective ‘quarantine zones’ for the displaced, needn’t imply a no-fly zone nor the bifurcation of Syrian territory. If it did – the proposals would not only be an impossibility, but would be very dangerous if someone tried to implement them. But as it were, Trump seems not to be clutching at those dangerous straws.
The last time I drank a Coke (or Pepsi) I was barely 20; it was in 1970. There was no social media then (aside from postcards) and international telephone calls were way too expensive for someone like me. So, while I was making my way by land across the world I depended on letters from home for news.

I am still recovering from my bout of severe throat/nose/ear infection and am slowly catching up today on what has been happening around our sick world... And lo and behold here comes yet ANOTHER "mass shooting", and this time it occurred at a Mosque in Quebec City, Quebec here in Canada....The initial reports that the Jew spew media are throwing out as of today is that a "lone gunman" (always seems to be the case it seems..) went into a Mosque in Quebec City last night, while Muslim patrons were in worship, and proceeded to pull out a gun and shoot up to 14 people...
Trump has aligned himself with Bush-era neocons, including senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham, who have called for no-fly zones as part of an effort to overthrow Syrian president Bashar al-Assad.
