Sen. McCain Explodes: ‘Rand Paul Is Working for Putin!’
"Putin derangement syndrome" may have finally jumped the shark. Just minutes ago on the US Senate Floor, Sen. Rand Paul did the sensible thing and blocked NATO accession for tiny, corrupt Montenegro. The inconsequential Balkan country brings absolutely nothing to the NATO alliance, with its army of approximately 1,950 active duty military, a population the size of the city of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and a history political repression and corruption.

Russia’s Lukoil calls for more oil cuts
Russia and Saudi Arabia may be forced to push for more oil production cuts during an OPEC meeting in Vienna in May [Xinhua]
Vagit Alekperov, the president of Russia’s largest energy company Lukoil, is encouraging OPEC and non-OPEC countries to extend their oil production cuts to help prop prices.
Oil prices have recently dipped despite the cuts and largely due to a revival in shale oil production in the US. -

Leaks can be for good or evil
Hacking and “leaking” have become major news items. Are the leaks good or bad? The answer depends on the nature of the leak. Are the leaks exposing crimes or covering them up? Are they for or against the public good?
Following are some famous leaks or disclosures that have done good. -

Varför finns religion?
Munkar i Tailand. Religion tycks alltid ha funnits; i varje civilisation, i varje kultur, i alla etniska grupper, i varje samhälle.

UN Report on Syrian War Crimes is a Bad Joke
“Diplomacy is the art of telling people to go to hell in such a way that they ask for directions.” ~ Winston Churchill
The UN announced its Syrian War Crimes report at a bizarre press conference on March 1st. The report received light coverage on that day and then immediately died, sparing all those in the world who had missed it, because it was an embarrassment to that organization. -

Assange investigation held up by translation issues
A hold-up translating a key document is delaying a decision by Swedish prosecutors over whether to continue their investigation of WikiLeaks co-founder Julian Assange on allegations of sexual assault.
The Swedish prosecutors said they would make a decision when they receive a full translation of the interview conducted with Assange at the Ecuadorian Embassy in November.
The prosecutors received the report from Ecuadorian authorities on January 5, and said that it is “almost completed.” -

Will Chrystia Freeland Finally Ruin Canadian-Russian Relations?
On 10 January 2017 Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau fired his minister of external affairs, Stéphane Dion, and replaced him with Chrystia Freeland, who was then minister of international trade. This cabinet shuffle might not have gotten much public notice except that Dion is a distinguished parliamentarian, former leader of the party and leader of the opposition, and a former key minister in the Liberal government of Jean Chrétien. Freeland, on the other hand, is a well-known Ukrainian ultra-nationalist and self-declared Russophobe and hater of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Regarding the Still Pending Kurdish Question
President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, Masoud Barzani, has recently stated that even without the approval of Baghdad, the autonomy shall eventually have to hold a referendum on independence. According to him, the people of Iraqi Kurdistan have a “natural right” to hold a referendum on independence. In this regard, it should be pointed out that, despite the persuasions of the West, Iraqi Kurdistan has in recent years repeatedly stated its intention to hold a plebiscite on independence.

Re-imagining Value: Insights From The Care Economy, Commons, Cyberspace And Nature
What is “value” and how shall we protect it? It’s a simple question for which we don’t have a satisfactory answer. For conventional economists and politicians, the answer is simple: value is essentially the same as price. Value results when private property and “free markets” condense countless individual preferences and purchases into a single, neutral representation of value: price. That[Read More...]

Acts of Abomination: A Familiar Sound
The Claims Commission was essentially a mopping-up operation, established to clarify ambiguities about land ownership that still remained after a century of white assault. It simply asserted that the Indians had lost land that they often had not, and gave them money as a panacea. Usually these claims awards were dutifully hailed in the American press as if the U.S. was generously giving down-and-out Indians a gift, when actually the opposite was the case.

Judicial overreach? Hawaii Judge blocks new ‘travel ban’ Executive Order
In the last few hours a US Federal Judge in Hawaii, Judge Derrick Watson, has imposed a temporary restraining Order on President Trump’s second ‘travel ban’ Executive Order.

Dutch see off Wilders in Netherlands election
Though results are still coming in, it is clear that Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s centre right VVD party has achieved a comfortable lead in the Dutch parliamentary elections.
