Aleppo suffers from water shortage for more than a week

For more than a week now, opposition militants such as Jahbat al Nusra and the Islamic Front have cut off the water supply to one of the largest cities in Syria, Aleppo. Due to the cut off the residents of Aleppo are suffering from water shortage and some are forced to drink water from rivers, which leads to infections. There have been warnings of outbreak of  water-born diseases in the region. Jahbat al Nusra and the Islamic Front are defending their action by saying the Syrian Arab Army is attacking their main supply road with artillery. Jahbat al Nusra and the Islamic Front are punishing the civillians by cutting off the water for the entire city of Aleppo.
Lat month, the militants cut off electricity to government held areas in Aleppo. The five million residents of Aleppo are being forced to go to wells, mosques and churches for clean water. One local resident said ‘’We drink dirty water. The situation is unthinkable’’. Another resident said ‘’Aleppo is thirsty. Terrorists have cut off water supplies. The five million residents of Aleppo are thirsty’’. For about two years now, the foreign backed militants have control over the eastern part of Aleppo. The government Syrian Arab Army is slowly advancing in the eastern part of Aleppo.
