21st Century Wire says…
If you think Turkey is concerned with the safety of Syrians – think again.
Watch a video of this report here:
Turkey’s Deputy PM has said that a ‘secure’ area should be created inside Syrian territory:
“What we want is to create a secure strip, including Azaz, 10km deep inside Syria and this zone should be free from clashes,”
Interestingly, despite framing the strip as a means of halting the violence, the inclusion of Azaz in the conversation could easily be interpreted as meaning that Turkey wants to re-establish its arms smuggling operation into Syria.
The Azaz corridor was recently subject to destruction by Russian airstrikes, which effectively shut down the CIA’s arms smuggling mission going through the narrow strip of land back into Turkey.
Closure of the corridor appeared to generate a rapid, and extremely negative, reaction for ISIS, as their last defensive hilltop on the road to their HQ in Raqqa fell just days later.
An increase in anti-Russia propaganda subsequently exploded throughout the Western media, and now we have this new demand from Turkey.
Turkey is far from concerned with creating a safe and ‘secure’ area in Syria, as their now extensively documented history of working with ISIS and interest in building a pipeline through Syria should show.
This can easily be understood as nothing more than a land-grab by a would-be Turkish empire.
Perhaps, they are far more worried about losing their army of terrorists that have been helping certain Turkish officials boost their bank accounts with funds from stolen Syrian oil.
Will the Western media let their viewers know that this ‘secure’ zone would include a known arms smuggling corridor that will only be further exploited to exacerbate the violence?
