The tragic death of a London man hours after the Manchester bombing forms a strange connection between that event and the events of 7 July 2005, also known as 7/7.
Tony Walter (photo, left), who died of an apparent suicide on the same evening as the ill-fated Ariana Grande concert, was a victim of the 7/7 attacks who not only suffered physical injury that day but – as the following story would lead us to believe – also debilitating psychological injury.
A friend claims that Mr Walter is the ‘23rd victim’ of the Manchester attack, so disturbed by the event that he took his own life. But as he was also a victim of 7/7, his death forms a bizarre and tragic link between the two events.
It should also be pointed out that Mr Walter’s friends, who seem to be the primary sources for this story, are not named. In fact, only one ‘friend’ is cited, but only in The Sun, and only as an ‘anonymous’ source. Readers should ask themselves why publications such as The Sun and The Independent feel the need to spin and exaggerate a story such as this.
At best this is sloppy journalism. No attempt is made to explore connections between the Manchester and 7/7 events, and the sole source for the story is anonymous. It appears that this could be yet another case of mainstream media refusing to delve deeper than the surface appearance of questionable events.

A man who survived the 2005 terror attacks in London was found dead at his home just hours after Manchester bomber Salman Abedi blew himself up, killing 22 people, at an Ariana Grande concert last week.
Friends of Tony Walter, 52, say he took his own life because he “didn’t want to live in a world where these terror attacks continue”. One friend claimed he was the “23rd victim” of the Manchester Arena bombing.
Mr Walter was just yards away from bomber Mohammad Sidique Khan in the Tube carriage that blew up on 7 July 12 years ago.
The blast, which rocked the train after leaving Edgware Road station, killed seven people, including Khan. Mr Walter suffered multiple shrapnel injuries.
