Rim Banna passed away at the age of 51. Her death on March 24, after a decade-long battle with cancer, brought grief to Palestinians everywhere. Christians and Muslims, Fatah and … Continue reading "Rim Banna and the Cultural War That Palestinians Must Win"

The other day President Trump told his audience at a rally in Ohio that US troops are leaving Syria “very soon.” “Let others take care of it,” he said, “it’s time to build up our own country. It’s time to bring them home.” The foreign policy Establishment, the military, and the pro-jihadist “humanitarian interventionists” of … Continue reading "Trump vs. the Permanent Government"

From time immemorial the Blue Dog organization has been soliciting money from the NRA and then spreading it out among its members. It’s a kind of money-laundering operation that allows Blue Dog members to get NRA cash without actually accepting it directly.

April 6: These otherwise pointless new sanctions seem to confirm my supposition that the real purpose of the US sanctions is to convince members of the Russian ruling class to get rid of Putin and to put into office someone agreeable to Washington’s overlordship. https://www.rt.com/news/423393-russia-sancions-new-us/

If you’ve been following this blog for any length of time, you’re probably aware that one of the (many) bones of contention we have with the DCCC, is over platforms. They urge their candidates to hide their positions, either not including issues pages on their websites at all or, if they must, to avoid all controversial topics. Their strive for bland reiterations of mom-and-apple pie, bio-oriented statements.
I have been posting articles for around 7 years now that point to the evidence that "man caused Global Warming" is a massive fraud and a scam..... The evidence has been shown now to be crystal clear that the entire "Global Warming" hoax was concocted for the sole purpose of swindling stupid and gullible people into surrendering their money for the scam of "carbon taxation".....
More than 300 electric cooperatives across the US are building their own internet with high-speed fiber networks. These locally owned networks are poised to do what federal and state governments and the marketplace couldn’t. First, they protect open internet access from the internet service providers (ISP) that stand to pocket the profits from net neutrality rollbacks that the Trump administration announced last November. Second, they bring affordable, fast internet access to anyone, narrowing the digital divide that deepens individual and regional socioeconomic disparities.
By Eva Bartlett | RT | April 4, 2018 During peaceful protests on March 30 in eastern Gaza, an unarmed Palestinian man walked on farmland towards the fence built by his occupiers. Within minutes, he was shot by one of the 100 Israeli special forces snipers deployed along the fence precisely to quash dissent—by any […]
California has the capability to produce 100 percent of its energy from renewable sources. The state has a goal to get 50 percent of its electricity from renewable energy by 2030. Even though California is projected to reach its target, possibly sooner than expected, the state continues to approve the construction of new power plants. These power plants are creating an excess of energy, which leaves residents paying higher electricity bills than anywhere else in the nation.
Jeff Bezos, one of the richest men in the world and CEO of Amazon, the biggest online retail store, subjects his employees in Ohio to conditions that warrant their need for food stamps. Specifically, one in ten of his employees in Ohio are on food stamps. And yet, the state of Ohio has given Amazon a total of $125 million in subsidies since 2014.
Hidden in the massive omnibus spending bill approved by Congress in February 2018 was the Clarifying Lawful Overseas Use of Data (CLOUD) Act of 2018. The CLOUD Act enables the US government to acquire data across international borders regardless of other nations’ data privacy laws and without the need for warrants. CLOUD was subject to almost no deliberation as the Senate was working swiftly to avoid a prolonged government shutdown.
On March 13, 2018 a meeting of twenty countries—allegedly to discuss how to achieve peace in the Gaza Strip—portended larger intentions, Phyllis Bennis reported for Common Dreams. Devising a plan for stability in the war-torn Gaza Strip is crucial in order to address one of the world’s most dire humanitarian crises. However, as Bennis reported, the meeting’s attendees—including representatives from many European Union nations, Israel, Egypt, and most of the Gulf Arab monarchies, but not Palestine—all share an interest in efforts to weaken Iran.
In Niger on October 3, 2017, twelve members of a US Special Operations Task Force and 30 Nigerien soldiers on a secret mission were ambushed by fifty attackers, believed to be ISIS-affiliated terrorists, leaving four US soldiers dead. The deaths of these soldiers were eventually announced to the public, leading to inevitable questions about what twelve members of the US Special Operations Task Force were doing in Niger.
In an October 2017 report for YES! Magazine, Mark Trahant wrote, “We don’t think of Californians as climate refugees yet, but we should.” Trahant was referring to the victims of the wildfires that devastated Californian communities around the cities of Santa Rosa and Santa Barbara. As his YES! Magazine article noted, the World Meteorological Organization has determined that “natural disasters have tripled and the damage caused by them have increased fivefold” due to climate change.
Studies and policies addressing the dangers of low-level lead exposure normally focus on children, and the IQ points they stand to lose when too much of the metal reaches their developing brains. But lead also poses less-discussed threat to adults: it damages a number of organs, especially the heart. Adult exposure to lead, even at low levels, which in the past was deemed relatively benign, is actually deadly enough to be considered a leading cause of death in the US.
Roughly 40 percent of the world’s population—2.3 billion people—lives in water-stressed areas. According to the World Health Organization, another billion don’t have access to clean, piped water. To address the issues of water scarcity and food security, many areas of the world are now using solar powered desalination plants to produce fresh water and encourage agricultural self-sufficiency.
Between fiscal years 2014-2016, the Pentagon sent US Africa Command (AFRICOM) and Central Command (CENTCOM) a combined $496 million to oversee and facilitate counter-narcotic activities in Africa. The funding was intended for a myriad of projects—from the construction of border outposts in allied nations, to training personnel in policing skills like evidence collections. Yet the Defense Department’s Inspector General (IG) stated that neither AFRICOM nor CENTCOM maintained reliable data for the completion status and funding of training, equipping, and construction activities.
A National Security Agency (NSA) staffer deployed to Iraq led a counterterrorism and counter-intelligence mission involving forensic investigations on computers seized in raids. The staffer’s “Media Exploitation” team claimed they found pornographic videos and photos alongside thousands of audio files of the Quran and sermons, and recruitment and training CDs with video of bombings, torture, and beheadings. The team “jokingly” referred to the content as the three big P’s: “porn, propaganda and prayer.”
Millions of girls in conflict disaster zones such as Lebanon and Myanmar lack access to supplies and information regarding menstrual hygiene management (MHM). MHM consists of a combination of information and practices to ensure a safe and dignified menstrual period. Researchers argue the greatest gap in MHM lies in the provision of practical information to address the cultural taboos around menstruation, and the lack of proper self-care resources and support to manage this monthly cycle.
Highland Park, Michigan, a predominantly black community surrounded by Detroit, has been facing challenges in obtaining affordable energy due to aging infrastructure. In 2011 Highland Park’s streetlights were repossessed due to $4 million in unpaid street lighting bills. Three years later, the city of Detroit paid $185 million to replace forty percent of its streetlights which were no longer working. Failing infrastructure not only impacts municipal budgets, it also diminishes community residents’ quality of life and impacts household finances, as J. Gabriel Ware reported for YES!
In a recent address to the Russian people, President Putin promoted a new class of nuclear weapons that are designed to bypass US anti-ballistic missile defense systems. These new weapons have been in development over the last 15 years, since the US unilaterally withdrew from the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty and dotted Europe with missile shields, while rapidly expanding NATO eastward. The Russians say its new upgraded arsenal, which includes both ballistic and anti-ballistic systems, is meant to restore nuclear parity and strategic balance with Washington.

Despite the UN appealing for record amounts of money for humanitarian aid in 2018, humanitarian spending has been decreasing. According to reports from the UN Office for the Coordination of Human Affairs (UNOCHA), the deficit between the necessary funding and what’s actually available from donations continues to grow, due partly to a decrease of $1.2 billion USD in donations from 2016 to 2017.
ISIS has been militarily defeated in Syria largely through the combined efforts of Russian and Syrian forces, Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced. No concerted military ISIS forces remain on the ground in the Middle Eastern country. Although a few dislocated bands of ISIS militants continue to exist and roam certain areas continues to remain a reality, they don’t constitute an orchestrated military or particular threat.

Ever since that "Passover" massacre of some 20 Palestinians (at the last count) last Friday, March 30th, 2018, I have been wondering what that psychotic freak of nature, Benyamin Miliekosky (aka Netanyahu) has to say about how his criminal IDF (Israeli "Defense" Forces) did such a "marvellous job" in murdering innocent Palestinian men, women, and children....
