This past summer I was asked to give a presentation on science and ethics. The person who asked me was motivated by the Pope’s encyclical, the comments regarding climate change.
Sunday... It is Thanksgiving weekend here in the formerly free nation called Canada, and time again for my weekly rant...Yes, I call it like it is, and Canada is no longer the free nation that so many other nations have wanted to emulate... The proof comes out crystal clear when you do your own research on how that disgusting criminal, that has the nerve to call himself Canada's Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, has turned this nation into basically a dictatorship.....
Sputnik – 11.10.2015 Finance Minister Natalia Yaresko considers a $40 billion assistance program from the IMF not enough to guarantee Ukraine’s economic stability in the long-term. By Eva Bartlett | Dissident Voice | October 10, 2015 Over the past five years, the increasingly ridiculous propaganda against President al-Assad and the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has ranged from the scripted (OTPOR fomented -“revolution“) “peaceful protesters under fire” rhetoric, to other deceitful lexicon like “civil war,” and “moderate rebels.” As the intervention campaigns […]
Former Republican congressman/MSNBC anchor Joe Scarborough was a guest on Al Sharpton's show this morning, talking about how the House needs a strong new Speaker and he pointed out that Boehner wasn't one and that McCarthy wouldn't have been one. He came up with the one person already proven: Nancy Pelosi. He didn't mention, at least not while I was watching, Paul Ryan. Paul Krugman got a bead on Ryan early on and has been warning American voters about his dangerous extremism for many years.

Are you sick of unlabeled GMOs in our food? Let the FDA know. You can file a formal complaint. Let’s send them so many that their servers bust!
FDA scientists once said that genetically modified ingredients were possibly unsafe. The agency ignored their own experts, and have since been acting like a dog on a chain, bowing to the whims of the biotech industry without any concern for public health.
A test designed to catch bits of cancer DNA in the blood of otherwise healthy people was launched recently by Pathway Genomics. The test is a first in “liquid biopsies,” blood sample tests that use gene sequencing technology to detect trace amounts of DNA mutations associated with various cancers.
A large test of reduced-nicotine cigarettes finds that the products may help smokers kick the habit.

At least 16 civilians were killed and 28 were wounded in attacks or protests across the country.
Bernie in Tucson last nightLast night Bernie Sanders spoke in front of 11,000 13,000 exuberant Arizonans in Tucson's Reid Park, 4,000 over the capacity of the DeMeester Performance Center. Mike Keefe (click to enlarge)"The party's leadership gave in to a minority of its members who are devoted to pushing devastating cuts to working- and middle-class families in pursuit of rigid and impractical ideological principles. The result has been a government in a state of perpetual dysfunction.
Putin doesn’t distinguish between the “moderate” terrorists and the “radical” terrorists, the good terrorists and the bad terrorists. It’s a joke. They’re all in the same pool and they’re all going to meet the same fate. They all have to be rooted out, apprehended or killed. End of story.

Russia is bombing “terrorists” in Syria, and the US is understandably peeved.

I am currently sitting in San Francisco airport waiting for a flight to Houston, where I change to a flight to Sao Paulo, Brazil, scheduled to arrive at 8:45 in the morning. I am, as usual, flying tourist class. Some years ago, I flew to New Zealand business class at someone else’s expense. It was a much pleasanter experience than I expect this flight to be. The stroking that goes with an expensive ticket was nice, but the real benefit was a seat that turned into a bed.

A few things that caught my eye this past week.
The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is an organization shrouded in mystery. This may be due mainly to the fact that the majority of people don’t even know of its existence.

In 2010, WikiLeaks became a household name by releasing 251,287 classified State Department cables. Now, a new book collects in-depth analyses of what these cables tell us about the foreign policy of the United States, from authors including Truthout staff reporter Dahr Jamail and our regular contributors Gareth Porter, Robert Naiman, Phyllis Bennis and Stephen Zunes. "The essays that make up The WikiLeaks Files shed critical light on a once secret history," says Edward Snowden.
-By NoahDamn, Kevin McCarthy, we hardly knew thee! It would have been so… interesting! Now the Republicans will have to find someone truly in need of an exorcism to take your place. The whole process is reminding me of those horrible Russian roulette scenes in The Deer Hunter where the protagonists keep putting bullets in the gun, holding it to their heads, then take very deep breaths and hope for luck; all in order to escape their horrible existence.
