Chinese President Xi Jinping and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang have offered their condolences to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Pranab Mukherjee over a train derailment accident in India’s northern state of Uttar Pradesh which killed at least 150 people.
At least 200 people were also injured in the derailment which occurred in India’s northern state of Uttar Pradesh on early Sunday.
Over 500 passengers were on board when the train derailed.
On behalf of the Chinese government, they offered their “deepest condolences to the victims and their families”.
On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his.people’s sympathy and support to the victims’ families and friends and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
Rescuers called off their search for survivors on Monday, but the Indian press on Tuesday reported that the authorities had suspended five officials as an investigation into the deadly derailment continued.
The cause of the derailment is still unknown but some believe it might have been the result of a faulty or fractured rail. Others said that the carriages themselves were very old and needed to be replaced.
This has been the worst railway disaster in 17 years.
