Joining NATO is Georgia’s foreign policy priority

Tbilisi, Georgia: Georgia’s joining NATO is the country’s foreign policy priority and third countries will fail to influence this process, the Georgian foreign ministry said Feb. 19.
“Georgia’s foreign policy priority is the country’s integration into European and Euro-Atlantic organizations,” the statement says. “This integration is based on unshakable will and free choice of the majority of the population of Georgia.”
“Georgia’s accession to NATO depends on the current dialogue between the alliance and Georgia, as well as the decisions of the NATO member-states,” the statement says. “Respectively, the third countries will fail to influence this process.”
According to the statement, the history of the alliance’s expansion shows that the accession of new countries to NATO is the most important factor in strengthening of their security and stability.
