To the state, war is the centripetal effect that pulls power toward the center. During WWI the national government experimented in top-down economic and political control and became enamored with it, which opened the door for the New Deal.
The National Recovery Admin's Blue Eagle was a propaganda force for conformity.
CounterPunch News Service | April 6, 2017 Executive Summary While the year 2017 marks the 50th anniversary of the Israeli occupation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, the Israeli government’s colonization project in the West Bank and East Jerusalem has accelerated dramatically. And so we’re dragged back to the Ken Livingstone ‘Anti Semitism’ scandal and the torches and pitchforks are back out. Livingstone, who has been described as “the only truly successful left-wing British politician of modern times”, may have made a comment that was offensive to some: but it was essentially only a historical observation, and […]
I am truly sick and disgusted by what I have been witnessing over the last few days thanks to this latest false flag "chemical weapons" attack in northern Syria.... Just this morning for example I decided to open up the local piece of trash rag that is published locally as a "newspaper" and what I read in the so called "Editorial section" was appalling... EVERY single article in that section coming from so called "renowned" writers was nothing but propaganda hit pieces directed at Syria, Russia, and mostly against Bashar al-Assad, for this fraud "gas attack" in Idlib province in Syria...
"With the World War mankind got into a crisis with which nothing that happened before in history can be compared. There were great wars before; flourishing states were annihilated, whole peoples exterminated. All that can in no way be compared with what is now occurring before our eyes." ~ Ludwig von Mises
By Colin Liddell | Occidental Observer | April 5, 2017 Dirty tricks are like favourite records: play them too much and they get jaded. We haven’t heard about gas attacks in Syria for some time, but now, once again, the media — and, sadly, the Trump administration — is in overdrive about what is claimed […]

In April 2018, up to 9,000 UK employers will have published the ‘gender gap’ between average and median pay, also who gets bonuses and how much including the proportion of women and men within each quartile of an organisation’s staff.
It is reported that with the current rate of change it could take until 2069 until women are paid the same as men, but by then most working women today will be retired.
Not just a line from our founding document; a fact.by Gaius PubliusBottom line first — Having justices like Neil Gorsuch on the Supreme Court is part of the attempt by Trump, Bannon, the Koch Bros and all Ryanist Republicans to dismantle the regulatory state. Dismantle — not undercut or chip away at. Tear down, starting at its base. Imagine what that will do.
The Parliament of the European Union just passed into law, a piece of legislation allowing passport holders of a terrorist sponsoring state of Ukraine to travel to any and all EU states, visa free, for up to 90 days.
Basically, US citizens are paying more taxes to have a bunch of international bureaucrats urge that we get hit with even higher taxes. And to add insult to injury, OECD bureaucrats are exempt from paying taxes!
A law that forces UK companies to publish details of their gender pay discrepancy came into force this week. Could it accelerate the closure of the 18.1 per cent gender pay gap?

As Shereena Qazi and Fatima Faizi reported for Al Jazeera, expanding insecurity in Middle Eastern countries has a direct impact on school attendance. In Afghanistan, an estimated 3.7 million children […]
In the first days of his presidency, Donald Trump and his White House team sent an email directing about 2,000 scientists in the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) to suspend release of “public-facing documents,” including news releases and photos.” The ARS focuses on scientific research into the main issues facing agriculture, including long-term climate change. By Gearóid Ó Colmáin | April 6, 2017 Things were looking good for days. Assad was willing to cooperate with the new American president. […]

In 1791 the most common firearms had to be reloaded after every shot, though more expensive repeating arms were still available, and had been for more than a century. James Madison, the author of the Second Amendment, was instrumental in jumpstarting firearms technology development.
Let’s start with what we don’t know. Experts remain uncertain what chemical(s) were involved in the horrific chemical attack, almost certainly from the air, on the village of Khan Sheikhun in Idlib province in Syria. The nerve agent sarin, chlorine, and unknown combinations of chemicals have all been identified as possible, but in the first 48 hours nothing has been[Read More...]
Fifty years ago, Dr. Martin Luther King gave his boldest and perhaps most defining speech. It alienated liberal allies in the North and the Northern press, plus many in King’s own civil rights movement, and prompted President Johnson to withdraw King’s secret service detail. Exactly one year later, forty-nine years ago on April 4, he was assassinated. He said, “As[Read More...]
Russian President Vladimir Putin has seen the intelligence and unlike western counterparts, he did not rush to judgement. This is what leaders and statesmen do…they wait to get the information before rendering a guilty verdict, and in the case of the Idlib chemical attacks, there can be no conceivable way that Assad committed this crime.
Using chemical weapons is an act of desperation, when you are losing a war, not when you are wining as Assad is.

These days, the briefest mention of the word 'gender' is enough to spark a conversational battle. However, if we can move beyond stereotypes, everyone might learn a thing or two about biology and the nature of our society.
Jesus shattered a pagan template of violence and revenge against those who harm us.By doing so He overcame all of His enemies.Herod’s military might, his political dynasty and that of the Roman emperors and their vast armies, have all vanished. They were swept away by a young man who advanced the seditious belief that might does not make right; insisting instead that we learn to love our enemies instead of hating them.Jesus taught us to resist the tem
Yesterday the Deep State scored a huge win with the Syria false flag chemical attack, forcing the Trump Administration to inch closer to war with Assad, and further damaging any hopes for an improvement in US-Russia relations.
Today the Deep State landed another blow to Trump, as Chair of the House Intel Committee, Devin Nunes, said he would recuse himself from the the panel’s probe into Russian meddling into the US election.
Why does the U.S. military invest so much pride in working to the point of tedium, if not exhaustion? A friend of mine, an Army major, worked at the Pentagon. He worked hard during his normal shift, after which he did what sensible people do – he went home. His co-workers, noses to the grindstone, would hassle him about leaving “early.” He’d reply, I can leave on-time because I don’t waste hours at the coffee maker or in the gym.

When Chinese President Xi Jinping meets with US President Donald Trump on Thursday it couldn’t be more of a conference of polar opposites.
But opposites attract and in the next few months the two global superpowers are going to need each other more than ever If they are going to peacefully resolve the crisis in the Korean Peninsula.
Woodrow Wilson continues to be invoked by politicians who believe America can achieve great things by warring abroad. Apparently, today’s policymakers have not learned anything from the debacle a century ago.

Russia recorded only a 0.1% growth in prices in March, bringing the annualised rate of inflation at the start of April down to 4.3%.
This is far better than even the most optimistic forecasts of just a few weeks ago. Last year the Central Bank was forecasting that inflation would be running at an annualised rate by the end of April.
With the serving of Article 50, Brexit becomes a legal fact. At least Leavers and Remainers seem to be united in their grumpiness. Is this just an internal character trait? Cheer up!
The other day David Dayen told me about a UC Irvine professor and consumer advocate he knows, Katie Porter, who has decided to challenge Mimi Walters for the Orange County congressional district that stretches from Anaheim Hills and Villa Park through Tustin, Irvine and Lake Forest down to Mission Viejo and Rancho Santa Margarita. Very exciting candidate-- and not the only very exciting candidate running in that district.
Since the bomb exploded in the St. Petersburg metro it has become clear that Russia is currently facing a concerted terrorist offensive.
Firstly there was the attack on the Rosgvardia base in the Caucasus a short while ago. Subsequently there was the bomb attack on the St. Petersburg metro, which is now confirmed to have been the work of a suicide bomber.

Whilst I do not know who carried out the Syrian chemical attack in Idlib province, I must agree with my colleague Adam Garrie that it is unlikely it was carried out by the Syrian government, and I think it is barely conceivable it was authorised by President Assad.

The abrupt growth of the Muslim population in EU countries has led to the growing amount of influence that Muslim migrant communities are now enjoying over the economic and political life of European countries. The percentage of Muslims in the population of European states is constantly growing, with this number jumping from around 4% back in 1990 up to more than 7% of the total population in 2014. According to the Pew Research Center, this ratio will exceed 8% of the EU population by 2030.
