In Memory of Michael Hastings: His CSPAN Interview

Michael Hastings was killed on Tuesday by the US government. His death puts the lie to the claim that spending 80 billion dollars a year on National Security makes us safe. Maybe he would have lived longer if the NSA did not have a copy of all our phone calls and emails.
Please remember that the federal government has a list of eight million Americans to be rounded up in case of a national emergency. Those eight million people are on that Core List. If Rachel Corey had survived Israel, she would be on that list. If we ever get control of out government, I would ask that a letter suitable for framing be sent to all 8 million people on the list thanking them for their service to our country and to freedom.
We never really had a chance to know Michael Hastings. He had been a writer for Rolling Stone. He was married in May of 2010. I remember his interview with General Stanley McChrystal but knew nothing else about him.
This CSPAN interview is about his book The Operators which is his  account of the war in Afghanistan. The book does tell us a lot about the military and the war. The Pentagon has 27,000 public relations people to sell war. One general in Kabul has more pr men on his staff than America has correspondents in country.
If he had lived, I would love to have seen him do an interview with General Hamid Gul, the retired Pakistani head of their intelligence services. I would also like to have seen him write about America’s drone war in Pakistan after having been there to talk to survivors.
