Mnar Muhawesh of MintPress News explains the recent US Senate bill aimed at suppressing the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement; she also looks at a new far-reaching establishment and corporate-media-backed initiative called NewsGuard that would “rate” websites for accuracy. Many conflicts of interest are discussed. Later in the program, journalist Abby Martin describes how US sanctions have hobbled the Venezuelan economy, with the intent to overthrow President Maduro, while she deconstructs the propaganda around the recent coup developments there.

Sputnik – 04.02.2019 All opportunities for dialogue with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro have been exhausted, Venezuelan opposition parliament speaker Juan Guaido, who has proclaimed himself the country’s interim president, said on Monday, after declining Mexico and Uruguay’s offer to mediate a dialogue with Maduro. “As for the initiative of Mexico and Uruguay, I must be […]
NBC News jumped the shark this week, claiming that the Tulsi Gabbard 2020 presidential campaign is somehow supported by a ‘Kremlin propaganda effort.’
The claim is just the latest episode in a two and half year-long campaign of anti-Russian propaganda which has become the standard across the US and UK mainstream media. In the NBC News piece, ‘experts’ claim to have scientific proof that an army suspected ‘Russian accounts’ and ‘Kremlin-linked websites’ are somehow propelling Gabbard’s presidential campaign.

(MPN) — For much of the past twenty years, critics of U.S. foreign policy have noted that it is often countries with sizeable oil reserves that most often find themselves the targets of U.S.-backed “humanitarian” interventions aimed at “restoring democracy.” Analysis of the nearly two-decades-long U.S. effort aimed at regime change and “democracy promotion” in Venezuela […]
A few years ago, when Marianne Williamson decided to run for an open congressional seat in Los Angeles-- a seat eventually won by Ted Lieu-- I asked my neighbors if they had ever heard of her. They both broke down crying. She, they told me, had saved their lives. Neither was remotely "political," although both were aware that their lives were being impacted by bad decisions coming out of Washington.
(SCG) — The US is backing another coup attempt in Venezuela. As usual, they claim that their objectives are democracy and freedom. Nothing could be farther from the truth. On January 23rd, 2019 Venezuela’s opposition leader Juan Guaidó declared himself acting president, and called on the armed forces to disobey the government. Very few had ever heard […]
A thought on inequality, based in part on a point in The Bell Curve. The authors argue that one effect of a meritocratic system is an increase in assortative mating. It occurs to me that the same effect would be expected from any change that increased the range over which individuals sought mates. The girl in your village who makes the best fit with you is likely to fit less well than the girl in your city who makes the best fit.
(CD) — Baghdad is firing back on Monday with calls to potentially boot U.S. troops out of Iraq in response to President Donald Trump’s comments that he wants to keep them there to “watch Iran.” Speaking to CBS‘s “Face the Nation” in an interview that aired Sunday, Trump said he wants the continued military presence because I want to […]

(ZH) — One week after a Yellow Vest organizer was “handicapped for life” by French police, protesters dedicated Saturday’s demonstrations to denouncing police violence – only to be beaten and gassed by said police. There have been 1,900 protesters and around 1,000 police injured since the movement began in November, and 10 fatalities, including an 80-year-old Marseille woman who was […]

The 2 most important keys to a healthy lifestyle are diet and exercise. But Coca-Cola desperately wants people to believe that diet isn’t as important as exercise, which isn’t much of a surprise, considering the products the company makes. But what you may not know is that Coca-Cola is willing to sink to low levels in order to deceive the public in order to sell more products.
By Tyler Durden – Zero Hedge – 02/03/2019 After approaching two months of talk of a “full” and “immediate” US troop withdrawal from Syria, first ordered by President Trump on December 19 — which was predictably met with swift and fierce pushback from beltway hawks including in some cases his own advisers — it now appears the death knell […]

The president’s interview on Face the Nation this morning contained some remarkable revisionism on his part on the Iraq war:

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: I disagree with them. I’m- I’m- by the way–
