Slobodan Milosevic was officially exonerated for war crimes at the Hague last week and the story was buried in the New York Times, yet it is one of the most significant events of the last month.
Tito’s Yugoslavia was not a Stalinist or Leninist state, it was not a centralized despotism, but a very interesting, if flawed, form of socialism. What made Yugoslavia strange and almost freakish among socialist states, is that they passed legislation for the sake of improving the lives of workers. For that, they were seen as the “black sheep” of the socialist bloc.

The ICTY’s exoneration of the late Slobodan Milosevic, the former President of Yugoslavia, for war crimes committed in the Bosnia war, proves again we should take NATO claims regarding its ’official enemies’ not with a pinch of salt, but a huge lorry load.

As always, the government prefers to treat the public like mushrooms – keeping them in the dark and feeding them bullshit. And with our supposedly crusading, disputatious, stroppy and difficult fourth estate unable or unwilling to report basic facts and to connect some very simple dots, what chance does the general public have of ever gaining even a basic understanding of what the West is doing in Syria?

Sanders supported Bill Clinton’s war on Serbia, voted for the 2001 Authorization Unilateral Military Force Against Terrorists (AUMF), which pretty much allowed Bush to wage war wherever he wanted, backed Obama’s Libyan debacle and supports an expanded US role in the Syrian Civil War.
