National Security spokesman John Kirby claims the US is not interested in a proxy war with Iran, but the US strikes could lead to larger conflict.
Hamas deputy chief Saleh al-Arouri was assassinated by an Israeli drone in a Beirut neighborhood last week. Hezbollah, a Lebanese paramilitary group backed by Iran, responded by firing missiles against military bases and communities in northern Israel. Critics are concerned about the spread of war and US involvement.
