Author Heather MacDonald reported that Blacks die of homicide at a rate 13 times that of Whites and most of them are committed by Black civilians, not police. Last year, 18 unarmed Blacks were killed by police, which is two-tenths of one percent of Blacks who died of homicide last year.

The reality is that there is more crime in minority neighborhoods, more need for police intervention, and more exposure to the possibility of excessive violence. The disintegration of support for police is a crushing blow particularly to those living in black communities where crime rates are soaring.

Stephen Cannon, 24, was arrested on Sunday and charged with first-degree murder for the death of Dorn, and was also charged with robbery, burglary, armed criminal action and felon in possession of a firearm.

The protesters, many of them masked, were hopping turnstiles, vandalizing public transit platforms and store fronts, and they poured glue over subway turnstiles.
