Whatever happens with Donald Trump’s candidacy- whether he rides his durable poll numbers to the Republican nomination, runs as an independent, or withdraws from the race completely- the ideas he’s introduced to the mainstream political dialogue will have a long shelf life.
Thursday John Podesta, Hillary's campaign chair, told a group of the rich stakeholders in the campaign that he thinks Cruz will be the candidate, although he feels Herr Trumpf and Rubio each also has a shot. He didn't mention anything about a fixed convention giving the nomination to Ryan. But Cruz is a good idea and it's been who DWT has called it for since the beginning of time. You can always count on the GOP base-- and this was clearly going to be their election cycle-- to go for the ugliest of all possibilities.
This year-- after an 8 year hiatus, Sleater-Kinney got back together, released a new album, No Cities to Love, and have been touring non-stop (this week New York-- Kings Theater in Brooklyn tonight-- and then off to New Zealand and Australia in February). Thursday night at the House of Blues in Cleveland, they performed a cover of the 1987 Ramones classic "Merry Christmas (I Don't Wanna Fight Tonight)."The original Ramones video is pretty rare too-- and, if I remember correctly, the first one that C.J. was in instead of Dee Dee.
While most of the fascisticly-inclined morons who support Herr Trumpf say they would stick with him if he dumps the GOP and takes the independent route, more and more mainstream conservative Republicans are indicating that they won't even vote for Trumpf if he is the GOP nominee! In a contest between Trumpf and Bernie, who do you think McCain would vote for, at least in the privacy of a curtained voting booth?
At Trumpf's bund rally in South Carolina a few days ago, he Islamophobic remarks got most of the news. But did you miss that he also seems to be coming up with some kind of a plan to "do something" to the Internet? He told his audience of lo-info fans that "We're losing a lot of people because of the Internet. And we have to do something. We have to go see Bill Gates and a lot of different people that really understand what's happening.

Trump hates when he's exposed as a loser-- as he often has been-- and the release yesterday on a new Monmouth poll showing his campaign taking a backseat to the other fascist candidate in the race. Trump slipped from 23% in August down to 19% in December. Meanwhile, Cruz's support has grown in the same period from 9% to 24%.
