VIDEO: Vladimir Putin calls for new sanctions against Ukraine

Since February 2014, Ukraine has imposed sanctions against nearly 1,700 entities in Russia. This is something that has been happening since the conclusion of the EuroMaidan revolution, which overthrew the elected government in Ukraine and replaced it with a very pro-Western, anti-Russian regime.
On 22 October, President Putin decided enough was enough, and signed a decree imposing sanctions against companies and individuals in Ukraine.
RT reported this on the 22nd and noted that:

Trump Is Trying to Square a Globalized World Through Capitalism. It Won’t Work.

Trump is trying to square a globalized world through a national-based American capitalism. It won’t work.
Former President Teddy Roosevelt (1901-09) described the essence of US foreign policy as “speaking softly while carrying a big stick”. Under the incumbent president, Donald Trump, it seems to be all about “speaking loudly”.
What Trump is carrying in reserve is a moot question.

Tariffs and Sanctions: A New Energy Trade War?

The Trump Administration trade policy is nowhere so clear as in the energy area.  For years it was thought that the younger Bush Administration was one of the most energy industry friendly in history.  But the Trump Administration has gone far beyond that.
Hiring Ray Tillerson, the former CEO of ExxonMobil, as US Secretary of State, sent a strong signal to the entire industry, even though his tenure proved to be temporary.

The US Has No Legitimate Reason to Impose New Sanctions on Iran

A friend in Tehran tells me that he marvels at the attitude of the United States ruling establishment towards Iran. ‘Why do they hate us so much’, he asks? It is a fair question. His country, he says, is not perfect, but it is certainly not a threat to the world. The current government – led by Hassan Rouhani (Iran’s seventh president since the 1979 Revolution) – is moderate in many ways, its foreign minister – Javad Zarif – a man of dignity. Certainly, my friend says, there are elements inside the higher reaches of government that are erratic.

Hawkish US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley Suddenly Resigns

Update (11:00 am ET): During their joint press conference, Trump offered effusive praise of Haley, saying she earned the respect of foreign diplomats during her time as UN ambassador. He added that “maybe” she will be coming back at some point, and that she could have “her pick” of jobs in the administration.
When her turn came, Haley praised the administration’s “follow-through” on its foreign policy aims and her success in cutting $1.3 billion from the UN budget.
