Svensk migrationsdebatt behöver nyktra till

Sverige är på många sätt lyckligt lottat. Vi lyckades hålla oss utanför 1900-talets krig och överlevde det kalla kriget. Vi har inte drabbats av någon apokalyptisk naturkatastrof i modern tid. Hur vidriga och tragiska de få terrorangrepp vi utsatts för än är, så är deras omfattning ändå relativt begränsad. Vi har sluppit att ställas inför det storskaligt Ofattbara.Vilket är bra, på så många sätt.

Orbán’s Latest Dance

Viktor Orbán of Hungary is not to be hectored to.  Arching with fury at the EU’s September motion to sanction Hungary for bad behaviour under the Article 7 process, he was resolved to ratchet things up.  The motion, while getting 448 votes concerned about judicial independence, corruption, freedom of expression, academic freedom, the rights and migrants, amongst others did have 197 opponents. (48 abstained.) Spot, as it were, the east-west European divide.

UN Migrant Compact, Shunned by Trump, Is Likely to Win World’s Support

A new UN global compact on migrants is to be formalized at a conference in Marrakesh, Morocco, in early December, before the UN General Assembly adopts it through a resolution. The United States is working against the compact’s approval and is pressuring other countries to follow suit.

UN Agencies Back Asylum Rights of Central American Migrants in Exodus to US

Migrants from El Salvador embarking in the regional caravan, destined for the United States. UN agencies are providing food as well as asylum information for the hordes of people heading to America right now. The UN agencies assert the migrants’ right to be heard.
Working closely with Mexico, United Nations agencies are providing food and other necessities to thousands of migrants from Central America who are walking or riding in any vehicle they can find toward the United States. There, they are seeking asylum but face threats from the Trump administration.

Russian “Collusion” is a Red Herring While a Fourth Reich Rises

As the 2018 U.S. midterm elections approach, there is still no evidence of ‘collusion’ between the campaign of President Donald J. Trump and the Russian government after nearly two years of inquiry. Thus far in the Department of Justice’s investigation led by Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III, only a trail of corruption involving Trump associates has been discovered.
