Midnight Meme Of The Day!
by NoahIt's a shame we let Trump back in the country when he stormed out of the NATO meetings and headed back to our shores after seeing a tape of other world leaders mocking him. Besides, we're getting to the point where Trump is so damn untethered we could have had Air Force One just set him down on an isolated, uninhabited island somewhere and he'd never know the difference.

Tulsi Gabbard: Wake Up And Smell Our $6.4 Trillion Wars
Via The American Conservative…
The Democratic establishment is increasingly irritated. Representative Tulsi Gabbard, long-shot candidate for president, is attacking her own party for promoting the “deeply destructive” policy of “regime change wars.” Gabbard has even called Hillary Clinton “the queen of warmongers, embodiment of corruption, and personification of the rot that has sickened the Democratic Party.” -

Global warming and the habitability of planet Earth
Carbon, the essential element underpinning photosynthesis and life, is transformed into toxic substances in the remnants of plants and organisms buried in sediments. Once released to the atmosphere (Fig. 1) in the form of CO2, CO and methane, in large quantities these gases become lethal and have been responsible for mass extinctions of species (Fig. 2). Given amplifying feedbacks from[Read More...]

Dealing With Climate PTSD
Recently, I was in Homer, Alaska, to talk about my book The End of Ice. Seconds after I had thanked those who brought me to the small University of Alaska campus there, overwhelmed with some mix of sadness, love, and grief about my adopted state — and the planet generally — I wept. I tried to speak but could only apologize[Read More...]

Paranoias of Interference: Russia, Reddit and the British Election
No election takes place in a vacuum, and for all the assertions of fact-checkers, monitors and gatekeepers of order, some agency, be it corporate, national or international, is involved. To persuade is to interfere. The intensity of this has become more relevant with the saturation, and velocity, of information spread. Often, it is impossible to assess how that distortion in[Read More...]

Zombie NATO Is Obsolete; Militarists Try To Retrieve It Through Expanded Targets
By Kevin Zeese and Margaret Flowers The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) held an abbreviated two-day meeting this week in London on its 70th anniversary. On display was a zombie alliance that is bitterly divided on multiple issues and has lost its purpose for existing. Rather than recognizing it is time to end this obsolete military alliance, they decided to expand their[Read More...]

Stand up and fight
When you feel your generation is being crushed by the twin excavators of the political imbecility and haphazard bureaucracy. When you see unemployment dancing everywhere and[Read More...]

The Real Collusion: How To Recruit for Forever War
I guess you can say I was raised on the old 1980s-era “Be, All that you can be” U.S. Army recruiting commercials. Cheesy, sure, but they were brilliant. I remember one that embodied the whole series. A racially diverse squad was helicoptered to a lovely green hilltop and proceeded to – almost instantaneously – set … Continue reading "The Real Collusion: How To Recruit for Forever War"

The Effects and Consequences of Congress’ Endless Permissions for War
I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can…Its brutality, its futility, its stupidity. ~ Dwight Eisenhower. For the first time in decades, passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) has been delayed due to disagreements between Democrats and Republicans. The disagreements at the center of the delay in Congress are, as usual, … Continue reading "The Effects and Consequences of Congress’ Endless Permissions for War"

How US Think Tanks Reshape the World We Live In
For the longest time the so-called “think tanks” have been an indispensable element of the American political system. These days there’s well over two thousand such “analytical centers” operating in the US, which exceeds the combined total in other major international players such as India, China, Argentina, Germany and the UK.

Can As Dysfunctional A Government As Ours Actually Impeach A Character Like Trump?
Harvard Professor Lawrence Lessig's Politico "Big Idea" essay yesterday tackled something that's been worrying many of us-- how severely divided we are as a people inside fundamentally dysfunctional political system. The essay is based on his book about creating a moral, unified America, They Don't Represent Us. He identifies 5 fundamental non-partisan problems of our democracy that are "all dimensions of a democracy which means that we are not, as citizens, equal with anybody else," and that must be tackled before we can move forward:

Trump Drops Bomb, Media Ignores
As his impeachment moved forward, in a morning press conference in London this week, Donald Trump mentioned casually that he and Vladimir Putin are discussing the elimination of nuclear weapons. Although this should put a major crimp in the foreign policy establishment’s all-pervading Russophobia, the US media (including Fox News) went deaf at that moment. -
