Prayer in the Time of Conflict
O thou Invisible Power,
Name some anointed hour
When strife shall cease and peace again shall flower!
Thy sun and stars behold
Miseries manifold,
Terror and anguish that may not be told;
Lands severed by the sword,
Blood as red wine outpoured
Before Thy temples, hallowed and adored.
And hark! – upon the air
The burden of despair!
Mothers and children – fold them in Thy care!
Omnipotent, befriend!
Shelter, protect, forefend.
And bid this reign of hate and horror end!
