How FBI Chief J. Edgar Hoover Blackmailed MLK

Clint Eastwood’s Hoover biopic starring DiCapprio gets it all wrong. Sadly, the new Warner Bros. epic is full of errors and misrepresentations.
The following is a key scene from filmmaker Larry Cohen’s The Private Files of J. Edgar Hoover (1977), depicting a meeting between Martin Luther King Jr. and FBI Director, J. Edgar Hoover. The movie stars –Broderick Crawford and James Wainwright. This dramatic recreation featured an all-star cast including Jose Ferrer, Michael Parks, Celeste Holm, Ronee Blakely, and Tanya Roberts in a cameo role. The film is a chronicle of forty years in the life of  the notorious J. Edgar Hoover, starting first in the time of Prohibition, to the Red Scare of the 1950s, and to the Kennedys, and finally to his hatred of MLK which shows how the FBI blackmailed America’s most famous civil rights icon.
