Poroshenko mentions introduction of martial law again
KYIV: If peace isn’t established in the Donbas conflict zone, then a need will arise to introduce a martial law throughout all Ukraine.
The news was stated by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko during his visit to a mobile border patrol troops base in Bortnychi, a suburb of Kyiv, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.
“We need to think about our actions in response to the enemy’s breaching a truce. Prior to the Minsk peace deal, I had warned at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine that if we don’t have peace, we will have to make very difficult but necessary decisions to introduce the martial law. I emphasize again: in this case, the martial law will be introduced not only in Donetsk and Luhansk regions but throughout all the country,” he said.
The President noted that in case of a further escalation of the conflict, he will immediately submit to the Parliament a draft of necessary changes to the legislation regulating an introduction of martial law.
He said that martial law would allow “to even stronger and more effectively mobilize, concentrate, unite and defend our land.”
