By Media Operations Division
Stuttgart, Germany: U.S. European Command spokesman Navy Capt. Greg Hicks, director of Communication and Engagement, provided the following statement:
“A medical team from Special Operations Command Europe has deployed from Stuttgart, Germany to Western Ukraine in order to coach and mentor Ukrainian Ministry of Defense personnel on basic battlefield medical procedures in order to enhance point of injury care.
The decision to deploy this coaching and mentoring team is based on requests from the Ukrainian Government for assistance and feedback from assessments that were conducted over the last several months which identified a need for enhanced individual medical capabilities.
Initially the mission will focus on coaching and mentoring close to 600 Ukrainian Ministry of Defense personnel (military) to develop a pool of individuals who are capable of conducting basic battlefield medical care.
“The medical team from Special Operations Command Europe is working in close coordination with the NGO Patriot Defense on this mission. Patriot Defense has conducted similar events for Ukrainian military forces since May 2014 in addition to providing the attendees with Individual First-Aid Kits (IFAK) upon completion.”
