NATO secretary general to visit Ukraine on August 7
KYIV: NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen will visit Ukraine on August 7, Head of Ukraine’s Mission to NATO, Ambassador Ihor Dolhov, has said.
He said that the visit would take place ahead of the NATO summit due on September 4-5 in Wales (the United Kingdom). The NATO-Ukraine Commission is to hold a meeting at the level of heads of state and government as part of the summit.
“The NATO secretary general’s visit to Kyiv on August 7 will be fruitful and important for preparations for the summit. It is expected that Rasmussen will meet with Ukraine’s leaders and that there will be an exchange of views on the question of what we have for the summit. The secretary general, in turn, will have the opportunity to hear about Ukraine’s current problems and a vision of prospects for NATO’s cooperation with Ukraine,” UNIAN quoted Dolhov as saying.

Putin may use humanitarian mission to invade Ukraine – NATO
KYIV: Moscow may use a humanitarian or peacekeeping mission for the Russian troops’ incursion into Ukraine, Reuters reported on Wednesday, citing NATO spokesperson Oana Lungescu.
NATO was concerned that Moscow could use “the pretext of a humanitarian or peace-keeping mission as an excuse to send troops into eastern Ukraine,” she said.
According to the alliance’s spokesperson, the concentration of Russian troops on the Ukrainian-Russian border is increasingly escalating the situation and undermining efforts to find a diplomatic solution to the crisis.
“We’re not going to guess what’s on Russia’s mind, but we can see what Russia is doing on the ground – and that is of great concern. Russia has amassed around 20,000 combat-ready troops on Ukraine’s eastern border,” Lungescu said, describing the situation as “dangerous.”
As reported, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that the risk of a direct incursion by Russian troops into Ukraine was greater than a few days ago.
