Iraq’s anti-terror Kata’ib Hezbollah group, which is part of the country’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), has warned American forces against remaining in the Arab country, saying they will be forcibly expelled by means of resistance if they insist on maintaining their presence much to the dismay of Iraqis.
This week, the top U.S. general in the Middle East, Frank McKenzie, confirmed plans for partial troop drawdowns in both Iraq and Afghanistan scheduled to happen before the 2020 Presidential Election on Nov. 3. The plans seeks to cut the troop presence in Iraq from 5,200 to 3,000 by the end of September. Is this an earnest rethink of western hegemony in the region, or is President Donald Trump merely seeking political capital by fulfilling his 2016 campaign pledge to end “America’s endless wars.”

The chairman of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) or Hashd al-Sha’abi has highlighted the role of the counter-terrorism force in defending the Arab country against the Daesh Takfiri terror outfit, stressing that it will never give in to the US.
Speaking on Wednesday, Falih al-Fayyadh described the PMU as an Iraqi military institution that is one of the main arms of the country’s national defense system.
As a result of recent rocket attacks on two its bases near the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, the US military has announced it is evacuating those facilities.
Back on December 27, 2019, the Trump Administration claimed it had ‘intelligence’ that the attack on its “K1” joint base in Iraq which killed a US contractor – was carried out by supposed “Iranian militias” (in reality, these would have been Iraqi PMUs) on the orders of Iranian general Qasem Soleimani.
