Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has reportedly engaged in an effort to broker the release of over 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by the Takfiri Boko Haram militants.
Obasanjo has met with people close to the radical militants in an attempt to negotiate the release of the abducted schoolchildren, AFP reported Tuesday, citing a source close to the talks.
US armed forces are now involved in 49 out of 54 African states, along with the former colonial powers of France and Britain, in what's becoming a new carve-up of the continent: a scramble for resources and influence in the face of China's growing economic role, underpinned with an escalating military presence that spreads terror as it grows. That will bring its own backlash, as did the war in Libya.

The [Nigerian] military has refused the group’s offer to exchange the kidnapped girls for imprisoned Boko Haram members. (We should not assume that everyone detained as Boko Haram is actually a member – only that all detainees face imminent and arbitrary execution.)

The blind ignorance of Boko Haram and other extremist groups, who impose themselves on Islam, springs from an act of overinterpretaion, a wrong reading of religion. Regardless of what benefits the promoters of this parochial mentality may reap, there is one incontrovertible point: they are trying to deliver a blow to Islam. No doubt, they are the sworn enemies of religion and they pursue no objectives other than uprooting Islam.
