Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed a bill into law banning all abortions after six weeks, which is the time that a fetal heartbeat can be detected. The law requires physicians to perform an ultrasound test for a fetal heartbeat on any woman seeking an abortion and it bars abortion if a heartbeat is detected. If lawsuits are filed to challenge the bill, as expected, the law will not go into effect pending the outcome. [...]
Bill Dix (55 years old) was first elected to the Iowa House in 1996, In 2010 he was elected to the state Senate and was reelected in 2014 with no opposition. Until yesterday Dix was the Republican Majority Leader. A couple hours after a month-old video of him making out-- or as the NY Post put it, canoodling in a Des Moines bar-- he announced his retirement. He resigned as Leader and as a senator, effective immediately.Dix is married and has 3 kids. The lobbyist is a woman.
The House Democrats are absolutely geriatric. The leadership is even more geriatric. We need a little-- or more than a little-- balance. I think we have two Blue America candidates in their 20s, both highly accomplished candidates: Austin Frerick (Iowa) and Kaniela Ing (HI). I'm older than both of them combined and yet I feel like I learn every time I talk to either one of them.

You’ll notice that in IA-04, the most Republican district in the state, only 49% approve of Trump, only 43% approve of Republican Governor Kim Reynold’s job performance and that just 26% approve of the Republican-controlled state legislature.

Instead the ad is a monologue by Chris Peterson, the former president of the Iowa Farmer’s Union. Peterson explains why Iowa farmers should be supporting Frerick for Congress in the 3rd congressional district. IA-03 is a swing district that includes all of southwest Iowa, from the entire Des Moines metro to the Missouri River, including Council Bluffs and the suburbs east of Omaha.
