Pediatricians Advise Parents: No Fruit Juice for Kids Under 1
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is recommending that fruit juice should not be given to children under 1 year old. [1]
The new guidance replaces the group’s previous recommendation of no fruit juice for children under 6 months. The AAP has also recommended limits in the past for older infants and children.
Prominent Group of Pediatricians Warn: Codeine is not Safe for Children
A leading group of pediatricians said in a statement published September 19 that codeine is not safe for children and should not be used to relieve pain or coughs. [1]
The guidance nearly mirrors a January 2016 Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warning that codeine should not be given to children and most teens.
Not Everyone is Happy With the CDC’s Recently Updated Opioid Guidelines
Earlier this year the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) responded to the growing opioid addiction epidemic in the U.S. by issuing new recommendations for health care providers who prescribe the painkillers for chronic pain.
The guidelines were published recently in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).
