I recently opined in an interview that my analysis of the alteration of western thought’s views about essence/ousia, matter and form, should be focused on in the difference in Plato and Aristotle.  Eastern theologian and philosopher Dr. Philip Sherrard made this point when elucidating the transition from Platonic conceptions of methexis to Aristotelian hylomorphism. 

Having explored a good bit of Plato, we move to his greatest student, Aristotle to understand his metaphysics, epistemology, ethics and civil polity. What about universals and particulars? Can we make use of Aristotle’s “god,” the unmoved mover? What are the flaws and problems in his thought? Stepping back beyond Marcus Aurelius, this week we look into the origins of philosophy itself, the basic questions of metaphysics and the basic questions of theology. What is real? How can we know? How ought we live? What did ancient Egypt and Babylon think? From there, we move in hour two to look at ancient metaphysics and early Greeks, as well as the poets and Pre-Socratics.
