Monsanto may have asked the World Health Organization for a retraction when one of their agencies declared glyphosate, the main ingredient in Monsanto’s best selling herbicide, Roundup, ‘probably carcinogenic,’ but they are going to have to start begging others too.
Major oat buyer Grain Millers, based in Western Canada, announced that it will no longer source oats that have been coated with glyphosate.
“In an April 20 memo to Prairie oat growers, Grain Millers said the new policy was ‘driven by functional performance attributes of finished products manufactured from oats known to have been treated with glyphosate and by customer demand.’ [1]
In a seemingly twisted turn of events, Colombia, known the world over as a center of illicit drug trade, will remove glyphosate chemicals from their coca crops – the raw material used to make cocaine. If the irony is lost on you, that means that while we here in the US can’t even count on eating a non-glyphosate coated apple or corn-chips, people who want to do lines of ‘glyphosate-free’ drugs can do so in Colombia.
Perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) have been used in a variety of products for many decades. It is well worth repeating that one of the more dangerous variants of PFASs that was formerly found in Teflon until it was replaced by a similar substance which may also be toxic. But that’s not the only place it’s found.
