In hopes of boosting counter-terrorism efforts across borders, India today launched a number of military drills with its neighbor Bangladesh.
The drills, titled “Exercise Sampriti”, will be held in the northeastern border states of Meghalaya and Mizoram until November 18 and be divided into two phases.
As the terrain is mountainous and is flush with jungle terrain, India’s Jungle Warfare School in Mizoram state will be involved.
Indian defense official Colonel C. Konwer said that the drills, in their seventh annual iteration, will give a significant push to the joint efforts of both countries in counter-insurgency and counter terrorism.
“It sends a strong signal to the world that both India and Bangladesh understand the emerging threat of transnational terrorism and stand shoulder to shoulder united in countering this menace,” he said.
Bangladeshi daily the Dhaka Tribune said that both countries will a hold a joint training module on anti-terror procedures from November 13 to December 10 at Danapur Cantonment in Bihar.
