October 31st was the anniversary of the birth of the Protestant Reformation. Martin Luther published his 95 Theses precisely half a millennium ago. It's tempting for libertarians to celebrate this day as a great victory for freedom of speech and freedom of religion, but the Reformation's main fruit was over a century of horrifying warfare.
