Many who read this blog know that I cover a wide assortment of topics... Political, health, as well as economic...... It is essential that everyone be made aware of what is happening in our ever changing world today and I try my best to put in my own two cents worth when I can....Many also remember how about two years ago I sadly reported on the demise of the huge American retailer, "Target" in Canada.. Originally Target America, based out of Minneapolis Minnesota, was looking at opening up a wide range of stores right across Canada and had invested some 2 BILLION dollars for these stores.. Well, after barely 6 months of dismal sales and stores bleeding money in Canadian markets, Target decided to pull the plug on the Canadian experiment and closed all their stores en mass... It was indeed a dismal failure for a major American outlet, and showed that Canada was indeed a far different market with different demographics than the US....Well, sadly today I was informed that a retail giant in Canada, that has been around since 1952, Sears Canada, has finally admitted that their model in Canadian markets has not kept up with the changing times and has decided to close ALL of their estimated 140 stores right across this land..... It is shocking news, and right now I want to present the link to a report from the Calgary Herald online news service that covers this important and troubling new development... I have my own thoughts to follow:http://calgaryherald.com/news/retail-marketing/brief-sears-canada-to-seek-court-approval-for-liquidation/wcm/b0dac559-64e1-4392-b883-10a229f528afNTS Notes: I do remember as a child spending a lot of time shopping in the local "Simpsons Sears" department store for a wide arrangement of products.... And when the store dropped the "Simpsons" moniker and basically was just "Sears" it appeared to still do a healthy business... But times have changed...Now when I venture to the local mall to observe the changing times and changing demographics, I cannot help but notice that NOBODY is actually shopping at the Sears department store... I ventured in a few times to that store over the last while to see what the hell was up, and what I saw was indeed troubling.. .Shelves and displays of products that nobody would ever want, even on sale....Sadly, this is the shape of things to come as shoppers are now changing more and more to online purchasing and avoiding the walk through the malls.... I have stated so many times in so many rants that the real economic situation in Canada is just as dismal as that in the United States... I have yet to be proven wrong....Basically,This is a warning to everyone that what we have been told about our economic situation today is pure bull crap... People everywhere are absolutely tapped out with no expendable incomes for any purchases other than what is shown as a necessity... People are taxed to death and there are fewer Middle Class people around with disposable incomes as more and more companies only pay their employees the basic "minimum wage" with which they cannot possibly spend at department stores such as Sears....This closing of Sears Canada will absolutely lead to a major ripple effect where we could indeed be seeing other major retailers here also be forced into bankruptcy...... It does not bode well for this nation as people prepare for the upcoming Christmas holiday spending spree as well....Sears Canada is only the beginning... What this shows is that all of this talk about 'economic recovery' in Canada is pure bunk... .The worse is yet to come...More to comeNTS
