Xi is hoping Spain will play a role in boosting EU-China ties [Xinhua]
Chinese President Xi Jinping concluded his South American tour of Chile and Peru following last week’s APEC summit by stopping at the island of Gran Canaria, Spain where he stressed bilateral cooperation and the need for people exchanges.
During his meetings with Spanish Deputy Prime Minister Soraya Saenz de Santamaria, Xi acknowledged that relations between the two countries are at an important stage of development and reform, but that there is room for boosting cooperation in such areas as trade, investment and agriculture, science and technology, clean energy and tourism.
Xi also said he wanted to build a lasting bond with the EU amid hopes that Spain will play a greater role in helping China-EU relations flourish.
Earlier, Xi had attended the China-Latin America Media Leaders Summit at the headquarters of the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Santiago, Chile.
“If we share the same voice and virtue, we can correspond with and admire each other regardless of distance and encounter,” Xi said of the need to deepen media relations between China and Latin American nations.
