U.S. General Visits Georgian Black Sea Port

General William Fraser Visited Poti Port

U.S. Transportation Commander, General William M. Fraser and U.S. Ambassador to Georgia Richard Norland visited Poti Sea Port today. The U.S. officials got acquainted with the water areas of Poti Port and its economic potential.
According to General Fraser, Poti Port is an important transport junction for withdrawal of equipment and soldiers of NATO coalition forces from Afghanistan. As he said both sides have experience of cooperation in transportation of cargo from Afghanistan. The U.S. side expressed hope for future cooperation.
Georgia’s transit opportunity was a key talking point of the meeting at Georgian Defence Ministry yesterday. Georgian Defence Minister Irakli Alasania and U.S. Transportation Commander, General William M. Fraser discussed the ISAF reverse transit of NATO forces and cargos and alternative transit way through Georgia.
Within the framework of the visit to Georgia, USTRANSCOM Commander met with the Georgian Prime-Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili, as well Ministers of Regional Development and Infrastructure and Economic Development.
