Ambassador of Lithuania awarded Swedish officers with NATO medals

During celebration of Swedish Veteran’s Day, Ambassador of Lithuania to Sweden Eitvydas Bajarūnas on behalf of NATO authorities decorated three Swedish officers with NATO Meritorious Service Medals for their service during NATO ISAF mission in Afghanistan. Ambassador Bajarūnas took part in the celebration of Swedish Veteran’s Day, Lithuania’s Embassy in Sweden announced.
Lithuania Embassy is NATO Contact Point Embassy in Sweden for the period 2013-2014. Lithuanian Ambassador was invited to decorate Swedish officers with NATO medals because of Lithuanian Embassy role as NATO Contact Point Embassy.
Three Swedish officers – captain Andreas Gustafsson, sergeant Niklas Rosen and private Daniel Gröndahl – were awarded with NATO medals for their excellent service in Afghanistan.
During celebration of Swedish Veteran’s Day King of Sweden Carl XVI Gustaf awarded Swedish veterans, wounded during military battles, and other officers for their military duty. Deputy Prime Minister Jan Björklund and Minister of Defence Karin Enström, Supreme Commander of the Swedish Armed Forces Svarker Göranson, veterans, representatives of civil society and diplomatic corps have also participated in the ceremony.
Veteran’s Day, which is celebrated every year, is becoming more and more popular in Sweden. It is considered as a good opportunity to establish closer contacts between society and the army.
