Putin said that Russia is willing to provide “everything that helps successfully fight with terrorists, who in fact created large, well-organized armed groups” [Xinhua]Russian President Vladimir Putin said Monday that his country is committed to helping friendly nations in their fight against international terrorist networks.
Speaking to experts from the Russian commission on military-technical cooperation just days after a number of terrorist attacks killed scores in Egypt and Turkey, Putin said that selling advanced weapons to these countries and others can help eradicate terrorist groups.
Advanced weaponry is needed, he said, because terrorist groups around the world have upped the ante both in training and logistics, and their capacity to purchase state-of-the-art weapons.
“[This] equipment includes not just close combat weapons, but also combat aircraft, air defense systems, multiple-launch rocket systems and armored vehicles, everything that helps fight terrorists efficiently,” Putin said.
On Saturday and Sunday, Putin expressed his condolences and solidarity with the Turkish and Egyptian people, respectively, and pledged to work with them in their joint fight against Islamist and global terrorism.
