21st Century Wire says…
The military industrial complex will not be happy about this.
Watch a video of this report here:
The European Parliament has adopted a resolution that will call for an EU-wide embargo on the sale of arms to Saudi Arabia, until a proper investigation can be carried out on the nation’s widely underreported war against Yemen.
Alyn Smith, foreign policy spokesman for European group The Greens, said this:
“The European Parliament’s call for an arms embargo on Saudi Arabia is unprecedented and reflects growing frustration at the conduct of war in Yemen by the Saudi Air Force,”
“Saudi Arabia is a top arms client of the UK and France, and there is evidence that these weapons have been used in gross violations of international law in Yemen, where thousands of civilians have been killed since the start of the war in March 2015.”
Saudi Arabia has been actively lobbying against the embargo, with the Saudi ambassador to Brussels, Abdulrahman al-Ahmed, apparently pleading with MEPs to vote against the resolution.
Last month, a UN investigation into the Saudi war on Yemen discovered:
“Widespread and systematic attacks on civilian targets by Saudi Arabia.”
The military industrial complex will also be very unhappy with the news, as it will undoubtedly cut into their profit projections made with the on-going conflict in Yemen in mind.
In some positive news for military technology, Russia has just announced that it will turn its old ICBMs into an asteroid defence system.
Do you expect to see some Western politicians decry the ban and support the arms companies?
