General Mills has recently been having a lot of trouble with contaminated flour, leading to several recalls. Next up on the list is a recall of two flavors of the beloved Betty Crocker cake mix due to possible contamination with the E. coli O121 bacteria. The two flavors affected by this recall are the Betty Crocker Delights Super Moist Carrot Cake Mix and the Betty Crocker Delights Super Moist Party Rainbow Chip Cake Mix.
Both of these flavors contain Wondra flour flavor chips, which was initially recalled on July 1st.
Betty Crocker advises that if you have either of these flavors in your pantry that they be thrown out immediately. Although the company does not seem to be offering a refund, you can get a replacement by phoning 1-800-230-8103.

Those who contract E. coli O121 often do so within 2 to 8 days of swallowing the bacteria. The most common symptoms are bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps. However, most people with strong immune systems are able to recover from E. coli within one week.
Those who are elderly, very young, or have issues with their immune systems may go on to develop hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a specific kind of kidney failure. Symptoms of HUS include abdominal pain, fever, fatigue, irritability, pale skin tone, small bruises with no explanation, bleeding from the nose and mouth and decreased urination.
If you think you or someone in your family has developed E. coli O121, make an appointment with your doctor or visit the emergency room immediately.
