Rasmussen to discuss in Kyiv preparations for NATO-Ukraine Commission meeting, says Foreign Ministry
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has confirmed that NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen will visit Ukraine on Thursday.
“Tomorrow, NATO Secretary General will be in Ukraine on a visit at the invitation of President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko,” Deputy Director of the Policy and Communications Department of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine Vasyl Zvarych said at a press briefing on Wednesday.
“The agenda of tomorrow’s meeting with NATO secretary general includes in particular the preparation of the meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission,” he said.
Zvarych said that the visit program envisages meetings with the Ukrainian leadership – the president, the speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, and the prime minister, during which they will discuss a range of issues of the NATO-Ukraine cooperation.
He noted the importance of the visit of Anders Fogh Rasmussen in Ukraine amidst the Russian aggression, as it shows NATO’s political support of Ukraine.
Zvarych noted that the visit of NATO Secretary General will also serve as a signal that there is no place for violation of international law in the modern system of civilized relations among states, and that the international community speaks with one voice in support of the independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
