We visited Ma’aloula on the anniversary of her liberation at Easter in 2014. I was in Damascus at the time of the libration and could see, from the Dama Rose Hotel, the smoke from the battle in the distance. At the time we were unaware of the significance of those plumes of smoke.
We can hear in the following video, as told by Dentist Dr. Joseph Saadeh, from the earliest, the FSA had nothing to do with freedom for the people of Ma’aloula. They always were sectarian, opportunistic criminals.
