The US, Ukraine and Russia: What Went Wrong?

John Mearsheimer and Rick Rozoff will speak on the current crisis in the Ukraine. Professor Mearsheimer will address the causes of the crisis and how it has affected relations between the United States and Russia. Rick Rozoff will speak on the transformation of NATO from a defensive alliance into a component of  U.S. Foreign Policy intent on neutralizing Russia’s strategic nuclear deterrent. Program co-sponsored by Evanston Neighbors for Peace.
Dr. John J. Mearsheimer is R. Wendell Harrison Distinguished Service Professor of Political Science and the co-director of the Program on International Security Policy at the University of Chicago, where he has taught since 1982. Professor Mearsheimer has written extensively about security issues and international politics. His latest book is Why Leaders Lie: The Truth
Rick Rozoff has been an active opponent of war, militarism and intervention for over 40 years. He manages the Stop NATO website and e-mail list and writes on the threat of international militarization, especially on the globalization of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
