NATO secretary general arrives in Kyiv
NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has arrived in Kyiv.
“Just landed in Kyiv. I’m here to offer NATO’s political support to Ukraine and President Poroshenko,” he wrote on his Twitter page on Thursday.
During his visit to Kyiv, Rasmussen plans to meet with President Petro Poroshenko, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk, Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin and Verkhovna Rada Chairman Oleksandr Turchynov.

United States strengthens presence in Black Sea
KYIV: The Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Vella Gulf entered the Black Sea on August 6 to promote peace and stability in the region, reads a report posted on the website of the U.S. Navy.
“The U.S. Navy’s forward presence in Europe allows us to work with our allies and partners to develop and improve ready maritime forces capable of maintaining regional security,” reads the report.
Vella Gulf, homeported in Norfolk, Va., is deployed in a multi-mission role in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations to contribute to regional maritime security, conduct bilateral and multilateral training missions, and to support NATO operations and deployments throughout the region.
