Chief of the Danish Home Guard Visits Georgia

Chief of the Home Guard of Denmark, Major General Finn Winkler pays an official visit to Georgia. Major General Finn Winkler met with the Deputy Defence Minister Mikheil Darchiashvili today. The sides talked about regional security issues, Georgia’s NATO integration prospects and future cooperation between the Defence Ministries of Denmark and Georgia.
Georgia’s participation in the ISAF operation and future plans were also discussed at the meeting.
Mikheil Darchiashvili thanked General Finn Winkler for political and practical support to Georgia from the Danish side. Deputy Defence Minister informed the Chief of the Danish Home Guard about the ongoing defence reforms and priorities of the Defence Ministry.
At the meeting the sides underscored the importance of fruitfuil cooperation between the Home Guard of Denmark and the National Guard of Georgia. Danish Home Guard is actively assisting Georgia in the establishment of the reserve and mobilization system providing expert and material-technical assistance as well as educational courses for the representatives of the National Guard.
Chief of the Home Guard of Denmark was also hosted by the Deputy Chief of Joint Staff of GAF Brigadier General Vakhtang Kapanadze.
Major General Finn Winkler and Chief of the National Guard of Georgia Levan Gamkrelidze signed a Memorandum of Understanding today.
The Georgian counterpart awarded Major General Finn Winkler with the Medal “Qaqutsa Cholokashvili”. Levan Gamkrelidze received a special award of the Danish Home Guard from the Danish side.
In the framework of the three-day visit General Winkler will visit the 10th cadre brigade of the National Guard in Senaki tomorrow. The day after tomorrow he will visit the 20th cadre brigade of the National Guard on the base “Paldo”. With the support of Denmark and Estonian Defence League, a special training program for the military personnel is underway on both military bases since August 4.
