SACEUR Breedlove: NATO to announce soon a decision on prepositioning heavy weapons in Romania
The Supreme Allied Commander Europe, US four-star General Philip Breedlove announced a decision in the near future on prepositioning NATO heavy weapons in Romania; he voiced his confidence in Romania’s prompt response and agreement with this decision.
He confirmed the Alliance’s intention in a joint press conference with Defence Minister Mircea Dusa; the Romanian official mentioned that technical talks to this effect were already in progress.
General Breedlove’s Bucharest agenda includes meetings on Tuesday with President Klaus Iohannis and Prime Minister Victor Ponta.
General, Philip M. Breedlove, Commander, U.S. European Command, as well as the 17th Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) of NATO Allied Command Operations said on Tuesday, in Bucharest, at the end of a meeting with the National Defence minister, Mircea Dusa, that he appreciates Romania’s “extraordinary” contribution to the NATO’s defence and Europe’s security.
(…) From the air police missions to those of crisis response, to hosting some of the six units for the NATO forces’ integration, Romania has proven its commitment for our collective defence, said Breedlove.
He also emphasized the importance of the Deveselu [interceptor missile] shield for the Alliance’s collective defence.
