The context for this saying is the conforming oppression of society upon the unique individual."Humanity is the worst obstacle to it's own higher learning. More then anything else that might be cited (such as language skills or imaginative facilities) this is what makes our species unique. We are encouraged by society to serve and perpetuate the given order, not the higher order of evolutional striving"John LashThoughts?

When the latest uprising in Egypt occurred just last month, I knew something did not seem right... We had the reports of Morsi forced to step down by the Egyptian military and news that he would be replaced by someone out of the "Muslim Brotherhood".... But for the longest time, I had a nagging feeling that the so called Muslim Brotherhood was absolutely not as they seemed....

Hezbollah expressed in a statement issued Monday evening firm rejection of the European Union’s decision to put its military wing on the list of terrorism, and considered it as “aggressive, unjust decision written with Zionist ink.”
The part of the First Amendment that prohibits "abridging the freedom … of the press" is now up against the wall, as the Obama administration continues to assault the kind of journalism that can expose government secrets. Last Friday the administration got what it wanted – an ice-cold chilling effect – from the Fourth Circuit [...]
When Edward Snowden revealed that the federal government, in direct defiance of the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution, was unlawfully and unconstitutionally spying on all Americans who use telephones, text messaging or emails to communicate with other persons, he opened a Pandora’s box of allegations and recriminations. The allegations he unleashed are that Americans have [...]
WASHINGTON – There is nothing wrong with giving credit where it is due. In recent months, Senator Rand Paul has taken positions we have both applauded, and grimaced over. And Sen. Ted Cruz, well let’s just say comparisons to the late redbaiter Sen. Joseph McCarthy have been called uncanny, and not altogether unfair, on these [...]
The political peddlers, think-tank experts and media professionals are all back in full force. They want us to believe that US Secretary of State John Kerry has done what others have failed to do. On his sixth trip to the Middle East during his post, and following intense shuttle diplomacy likened to that of Henry [...]
Don't mention Thomas Jefferson to Texas nutbag Ted CruzAs soon as the Texas plutocrats won control over the state Board of Education, through their pathetic Tea Party puppets, one of the first orders of business was to eliminate Thomas Jefferson from the history books. Dangerous revolutionary, that Jefferson, with his subversive ideas. I wonder how long it will take for them to move against historical Jesus too.
When the Edward Snowden/NSA trouble first started last month, I too was originally thinking that this man was a hero to the American people by his escaping the United States with valuable information that could both expose the criminality of the NSA and the entire Barry Soetoro regime in Washington. However, it has been well over a month since Snowden left the US, and I am deeply troubled by the simple fact that if this man is truly legitimate, he should have already put out valuable information that could possibly bring down the entire corrupt NSA organization. But to this day, he has not

The Travesty goes like this.
The grounds for Zimmerman’s acquittal were that he shot someone, and killed him. Pure and simple.
The grounds for Trayvon Martin’s having been killed is that he decided to defend himself against someone stalking him.
Does it make sense? No. Is it true? Yes.

Edward Snowden has exposed more than a massive spying operation. The whistleblower has – perhaps unintentionally – drawn attention to just how obsequious Europe’s political leaders are towards the US.

The head of the California Democratic Party's Environmental Caucus, R.L. Miller, is starting up a national Climate Hawks Vote project. She was instrumental in getting a resolution calling for a moratorium on fracking through the sometimes tepid California Democratic Party and many of us know her as an intrepid environmental blogger at Daily Kos.

The United States and Israel have begun a joint aerial drill. According to a statement by the Israel military the two-week “Juniper Stallion 13” aerial exercise began Sunday morning.
An undisclosed number of F-15 and F-16 fighter jets from both sides are participating in the training event. It’s held at Uvda Base in the southern Negev Desert, during which pilots will practice air-to- air combat maneuvers, mid-air refueling, bombing runs and other missions.

Iran’s newly elected president will take office on August 3, and negotiations about Iran’s nuclear program are expected to begin in early September. In the interim, intense and possibly important debates are taking place within the US policy-making elite about whether developments in Syria and Iran should prompt the United States to make more positive and creative diplomatic approaches toward Tehran.

George Prescott Bush shouldn't even exist. By all rights, his great grandfather, Prescott Bush, should have been tried for treason and executed for a Wall Street coup attempt against Franklin Roosevelt and for his simultaneous collaboration with Hitler. No Prescott, no George H.W. Bush and no Jeb Bush, George P's grandfather and father. But Prescott was rich, white and well-connected-- and got off almost scott free for his treason.
At the end of last week I expressed my doubts that Secretary of State John Kerry could orchestrate substantive peace talks between Israel-Palestine. At the crux of it, since Israel refuses to freeze settlements, and since settlements essentially indicate an intention to annex the West Bank, Israeli policy explicitly opposes a political settlement that would give Palestinians a state. America supports Israel unequivocally, and thus, no settlement is possible.
Reports of security forces completely foiling two jailbreaks yesterday near Baghdad were premature. Clashes continued for at least 10 hours overnight as several hundred detainees apparently made their escape at one or both prisons. The two facilities are located just outside the capital in Taji and Abu Ghraib. The number of casualties rose overnight as well.
Libertarian-leaning Republicans are holding up a defense appropriations bill until they get amendments through that will block funding for any military operations in either Syria or Egypt and for dragnet-style NSA surveillance.
Representative Justin Amash (R-MI) is leading a group of fellow congressmen to amend the impending Defense Appropriations bill to include language “that would ban the NSA from collecting information from people who aren’t under investigation.”
I'm glad Nancy Pelosi is launching an initiative to help empower women. But, let's be frank-- when Michele Bachmann succeeds or Ann Coulter succeeds, America fails. The new information was published by German weekly Spiegel on Sunday and was based on secret documents from the US intelligence service.
The rise of Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) as an alternative to Bush era GOP dead-enders has the two principal anti-libertarian factions in American politics snarling and spitting in fury – and real fear. The progressives – in the drivers’ seat at the moment – are especially miffed that this upstart ophthalmologist, and son of Ron [...]
An alternative to thisMany people-- other than folks in rural areas and hipsters in a few big cities-- think of "public broadcasting" as "college radio." That started changing in the 1940s and the whole genre took a great leap forward with the Public Broadcasting Act of 1967 and the subsequent founding of National Public Radio (NPR) in 1970.
Former National Security Agency Director Michael Hayden should not throw any more stones, lest his own glass house be shattered. Not that the TSA really did anything to foil him, mind, the underbomber’s explosive parcel managed to start a small fire that burned his genitals pretty bad, but that was about it.
