“The only way you’re going to do effective journalism is to be truly independent,” Webb once said. “It’s a difficult thing to do, but [investigative journalists] George Seldes and I.F. Stone did it. There’s no reason modern-day journalists can’t do it too. You don’t get 401-Ks and health benefits, but at least you get to tell the truth.”

Just like the Fall of Saigon in April 1975, in which thousands of American personnel were scrambled out the country ahead of the Vietnamese victory, the retreat from Afghanistan this week signals another humiliating defeat for the warmongers in Washington.
Not only a humiliating defeat, but the end of a long and bloody chronicle of futile war. Thirteen years ago, the Americans invaded Afghanistan allegedly to topple a fundamentalist Taliban regime and eradicate an international source of terrorism led by Saudi al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden.
Al-Akhbar | November 2, 2014 Gaza has become an open-air prison after Israel decided to close two border crossings with Gaza, the army said on Sunday, after a rocket allegedly fired from the Palestinian enclave struck its territory. The Israeli blockade comes a week after Egypt closed its border with Gaza. With all borders closed, […]
By James Petras | October 31, 2014 The principal reason why Washington engages in military wars, sanctions and clandestine operations to secure power abroad is because its chosen clients cannot, and do not, win free and open elections. A brief survey of recent election outcomes testify to the electoral unattractiveness of Washington-backed clients. The majority […]

October closed with a significantly higher number of casualties than did September. At least 6,715 people were killed across Iraq, and another 2,805 were wounded. Due to the nature of the conflict zone, these figures are only rough estimates. Two U.S. servicemembers were also killed during the month, from non-combat causes. Antiwar's analysis is below. On Saturday, at least 205 were killed and 104 more were wounded.

*I am still doing some catching up… I have been basically out of commission for almost a full week, with plenty of articles that have been sitting in my blog that I was ready to post but just needed some final touches… The following is definitely a great one that everyone should especially read… NTSPeriodically, a great article surfaces that everyone should read, and heed its words… One such article comes from a writer over at "The Rebel" at www.therebel.org, named "Yukon Jack".
Israel absolutely did the attacks of September 11th, 2001 that killed some 3000 innocent American citizens and plunged the United States into the fraudulent "war on terror". It is so amazing that some 13+ years since that fateful day that so many Americans and even those living outside of the United States just do not see that as absolutely the truth.

It looks like hell in this format, stretched and squashed into that tiny screen, and the voices sound kind of peculiar too -- has the pitch somehow dropped? Still, I think this may be my favorite WKRP episode: "Baby, It's Cold Inside" (Season 3, Episode 8). On this frigid, heatless morning, the station staff, which I describe below as "one of the great ensemble casts in TV history," is thrown into confusion by the unexpected early-morning appearance of Mrs. Carlson (Carol Bruce), media-mogul mother of station manager Arthur "Big Guy" Carlson (Gordon Jump). Last week we talked about how Republicans were unleashing a barrage of attack ads against weak conservative Democrats, like John Barrow, for voting with Republicans. Democrats who crossed the aisle to vote with Republicans to cut Social Security benefits for retired people are now being bombarded with ads-- that are true, regardless of the disingenuous source-- pointing out that they are the enemies of working people.

Yes, I am back…I came down very hard with one heck of a cold that spread deep into my lungs on Thursday… It did get bad enough that I did consider going to see a doctor and possibly go on antibiotics… But I am stubborn and knowing the real dangers of antibiotics (I would only take them as a last alternative) I decided to try to use natural remedies, get plenty of sleep and ride it out…Well, by yesterday morning, the fever and the intense cough had broken, but I decided to listen to my better half and just get plenty of rest for Friday… No computer, no blogging….

The speech above is about a progressive vision that Michelle Nunn, Alison Grimes, Mark Pryor, Mary Landrieu-- let alone Greg Orman or Larry Pressler-- could never give. Shenna Bellows have the speech Thursday night at at the Portland Expo rally. Blue America contributors have given more to the Bellows campaign than to any other Senate campaign anywhere-- not because she's the most likely to win (she isn't), but because she's the ideal candidate our contributors want to see keep fighting. Grimes won't even admit she voted for Obama.

Because Iraqis like to shop on the weekly prayer day, Fridays are an opportune time for bombers to attack markets, particularly pet shops. Today was no exception. Also, there were more reports of executions of Albu Nimr tribe members in western Iraq; however, only a few militant deaths were reported. At least 115 people were killed and 59 more were wounded.
