On the 22nd of October 1962 the US 2nd Fleet began the blockade of Cuba, an action that immediately threatened the world with nuclear war and annihilation. Those of us old enough to remember President Kennedy’s statement on live television will never forget the fear we all felt as the images of mushroom clouds swept across the TV screens and air raid sirens began their haunting screams as we were told to “duck and cover.”
Tough As Texas [above] is a very memorable ad by Houston actor and filmmaker Richard Linklater, best known for directing hit films-- mostly about and set in Texas-- like Slacker, Boyhood, Fast Food Nation, Dazed and Confused as well as Before Sunrise, Before Sunset and Before Midnight. It was released this week by the FireTedCruz PAC and is unrelated to the Beto O'Rourke's campaign. But it will probably do Beto a lot of good nonetheless.

(ZHE) — Shortly before his lunch meeting with rapper Kanye West and legendary pro football quarterback Jim Brown, Trump shared some kind words about West in an interview with Fox News, calling the Chicago rapper-producer a “genius” and saying that West “isn’t asking anything for himself” during Thursday’s meeting. West is hoping to discuss prison reform, creating more job […]
This is interesting. I like the idea of them cooperating on an investigation rather then this continuing battle of he said/she said. One thought that crossed my mind- Are Turkey and Saudi Arabia choosing to work together to spite those that want them at each others throats?
The most important piece of news in recent weeks has nothing to do with Brexit or Brett Kavanaugh. It didn’t make the front page and it did not cause social media to explode. It was a milestone that represented not a great leap forward, but hundreds of millions of steps in the right direction.
I am referring to the fact that, as of last week, more than half of the world is middle class.

Sudden concern in Washington over Saudi behavior is puzzling. But the disappearance of a Washington Post writer and the suspicion that the Saudi government is involved has led Washington and particularly the Senate and House to demand some answers. They didn’t care much about Saudi involvement with terrorists in Syria or the evil Saudi war on Yemen. Should we break with the Saudis? Yes. Why? Tune in to today’s Ron Paul Liberty Report:
By Philip Roddis | Steel City Scribe | October 11, 2018 The West’s war on Syria, and rapidly heating cold war on Russia, have involved extensive use of smear. Sputnik – 11.10.2018 A lawsuit filed in September by two donors and an ex-employee from the Democratic Party alleged that President Donald Trump’s team had purportedly conspired with Russia to release emails ostensibly stolen from the servers of the Democratic National Committee. In a motion to dismiss a new lawsuit, the Trump campaign, represented by […]
Today’s society has given birth to an entirely new cultural phenomenon where no one can escape their former selves. But by constantly rubbing people’s faces in their past blunders, we inhibit the process of personal transformation—a concept so deeply rooted in our culture we would be remiss to let it slip away.

On possibilities, known neglecteds, and the vicious positive feedback loop between scientific assessment and policy making that has created a climate Frankenstein.
Democratic strategists couldn't be happier. Trump-- imagining that the national electorate is a reflecting of one of his hate rallies in red states-- is doing everything he can to turn next month's midterms into a referendum on him. Every poll shows most Americans-- a majority, not a plurality-- feels his unfit for the job.

Instead of terminating the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS)—which requires a sharp increase in the amount of ethanol mixed into gasoline, from 15 billion gallons this year to 36 billion gallons by 2022—it appears the Trump administration has doubled-down on biofuels.

By Philip M. GIRALDI | Strategic Culture Foundation | 11.10.2018 There were two simultaneous Brett Kavanaugh stories. Amazon’s widely touted increase in its minimum wage was accompanied by an ending of their monthly bonus plan, which often added 8% to a worker’s salary (16% during the holiday season), and its stock share program which recently gave workers shares worth $3,725 at two years of employment. I’m reasonably confident that most workers will still benefit on net, simply because the labor market is tight, but it’s clear that the increase in the minimum wage was not as generous as it first appeared.
Blatant lies have been a feature of the British political system for a long while. Whitehall’s tried and tested ways of manipulating the general public are used to distract attention from crucial topics. But what’s even more curious is that inside the Whitehall bunkers where they come up with their own definitions for such manipulations, there is even a term for this kind of propaganda. They call it a ‘term of art’.

Ever since the Brexit referendum was first announced, we have been bombarded by an array of starkly contradictory pronouncements – from the Leave camp’s now infamous claim that withdrawal from the EU would release £350 million a week for the NHS to the former Chancellor George Osborne’s assertion that Brexit would leave the UK “permanently poorer”. At first glance, the[Read More...]

I have long studied legitimate and illegitimate authorities, which exist in all walks of life. Illegitimate authorities include dishonest or exploitative ones but also include those which are incompetent. The fact that 1.6 million fans attended Reds games in 2018 compared to nearly 2.5 million in 2013 is not about Reds fans’ disloyalty, but about loyal Reds fans’ civil disobedience – a refusal to comply with the illegitimate authority of Reds management

The “Assad Files” story: ‘A secretive team of war crimes investigators smuggled hundreds of thousands of documents out of Syria … to build a case against Assad.’ Upon closer examination though, this impressive trove of ‘evidence’ appears to vindicate, rather than condemn the Syrian government.
